As you review the infor mation contained in the following pages, one fact is blindingly obvious—Millbrook is a school with clear vision and tremendous momentum. It’s a school on the move. Our strategic plan sets forth the lofty goal of being the best small boarding school in the country. There are many measures of what defines “best”—quality of faculty, admissions selectivity, excellence of the program, college placement, size of endowment, facilities, and administrative leadership. By all these measures, Millbrook is gaining momentum, moving forward with greater speed and intensity, somewhat akin to the snowball rolling down the hill. Momentum is a rare self-perpetuating phenomenon, and, as we know from physics, the faster an object moves, the harder it is to stop. To reach our goals and to maintain this momentum we need to ensure that we all—alumni, faculty, students, parents and friends—continue to work together with common purpose. From humble beginnings in 1931, Millbrook has grown in size, scope, and stature, and nowhere is that more evident than in the metr ics mentioned above. Millbrook is ‘better by design,’ and our mission to educate students who will succeed in college and beyond lies at the core of all we do. The progress we have made is a result of the tremendous support of our constituency, and our goals are in sight, yet we must act so we can maintain our momentum and continue to become an ever better Millbrook. Join us, help us keep the momentum going, and share the pr ide as we celebrate Millbrook’s history and forge its future. Campaign Co-Chairs Peter R. Chapman P ’11, ’12 and Caroline A. Wamsler, PhD ’87

In 1990 fewer classrooms were spread out across campus; Schoolhouse housed 5 classrooms, and all others were located in the basements of dorms, in the Barn, or in the Mill. Today each academic department has its own presence and dedicated classrooms. The Frederic C. Hamilton Math & Science Center includes 9 dedicated classroom and lab spaces, and Schoolhouse is home to the humanities classrooms. The Harris-Kenan Language Center is a language-immersion mecca on campus, and the Holbrook Arts Center adds 10 classrooms for a multitude of creative disciplines.

Our mission and commitment to environmental stewardship and carbon neutrality led to the construction of our solar photovoltaic power field. This solar field now powers 100% of our campus electricity and has lowered our greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. The solar field is also integrated into our curr iculum, as our faculty develops ways to get our students involved in learning about conservation and solar power through hands on projects at the solar field.
