Get your sleeves rolled up!! ! We've been talking about it for a while, and now Spring has come....On 9th September 2012 the community around Herbert will be coming together for some gardening, garden styling and a BBQ at the Herbert Street Kerbside Garden, between 10am-4pm.!

Concept for the Herbert Street Garden

Proposed activities for the day!
1. Sheet mulch under the apple.!

2. Make that area into a nice “chill out” area.!
Area around the fence:!
3. Weed along the fences.!
• Cardboard and mulch.!
4. Plant trees and shrubs (prepare soil before).!
• Shrubs (cherry guavas per example).!
5. Mulch the area.!
• Small evergreen trees (3 citrus would be great. A few natives too).!
6. Weed garden along the apartment wall.! 7. Plant banana and passion fruit vines.!
• Ground cover plants.!
8. Set up compost bins.!
• Climbing plants (hardenbergia or passion fruit vines).!
9. Have fun....on the swing in the tree!!
• Forks and other tools to fight the runner grasses.!
Wish list;!
• Edging materials of some kind a good bonus.!
We have compiled a wish list, because we thought that you, or people you know maybe able to add some of their old gardening equipment and furniture to this garden.!
• Compost, manures, worm casting and other goodness.!
Chill area:! • Outdoor furniture (picnic table, chairs..).! • Lots of cardboard to sheet mulch with (there cannot be too much).! • Lots of wood mulch (an arborist will be dropping mulch for us if he can, but the more the merrier).!

Along the townhouse wall:! • 2-3 passion fruit vines.! • 1 banana tree.! •Cardboard and mulch.! •Compost bin near bananas ! •Ground cover plants and grasses!
