BIOGRAPHY Samantha Quintanilla, a native Austinite, began playing the violin and singing professionally at the tender age of 14. Samantha first picked up the violin while attending the Humanities and Law Magnet program at Fulmore Middle School in 2006 and instantly formed a connection with the stringed instrument. Samantha received classical training through the Austin Youth Orchestra and through private lessons with the late Jennifer Bourianoff. However, her love of music began early on as there was always music in her life with her father introducing her to everything from the Beatles and the Rolling Stones to Metallica and Grupo Mazz. Samantha began performing locally with Mariachi Palenque and that was just the beginning. It was evident that she found her passion and began studying at the San Marcos Mariachi Academy with Mr. Frank De Leon. There Samantha joined Mr. De Leon’s professional group, Mariachi Suroeste, and the academy group, Mariachi Bondad. Samantha helped Mariachi Bondad with their first win with a solid 3rd place finish in the highly-competitive Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio in 2009. Samantha’s studies continued as she entered The University of Texas at Austin and joined Mariachi Paredes de Tejestitlan. Samantha is currently working on her first mariachi CD with Grammy Award winner John Ontiveros of KTTK Recording Studio. She is also working on her first Tejano single due out in late 2013. Samantha plays with Mariachi Cocula of Austin, TX, Mariachi Margaritas of Brownsville, TX and with Los Chavez’ in Austin, TX.
