HOMILETICS INDEPENDENT STUDY SCHEDULE HOM 1-1 - MONDAY, OCTOBER 1ST Reading: Homiletics Notepack: sections “Sermon Prep List” and “Rick Warren on Preaching”. Interaction: 1. As you read the section “Sermon Prep List”, write down any questions and thoughts that come to your mind. You don’t need to turn this in, but have your questions and thoughts ready for the daily workshops. 2. As you read, make a list of key points or principles that are important to keep in mind when preparing a message. Use this list as a reference to write a paragraph about what you learned from the reading. Turn this in for HOM 1-1. 3. Identify your topic: one of God’s character attributes. Identify an objective (what you hope to accomplish with your teaching). Decide on an illustration and your three main points. Turn this in along with your paragraph on what you learned from the reading.

HOM 1-2 - TUESDAY, OCTOBER 2ND Reading: Homiletics Notepack: sections “Principles of Effective Communication”, “Primer on Preaching like Jesus”, and “Preaching is Much More Than Just Given a Sermon”. Interaction: 1. As you read the section “Principles on Effective Communication”, write down any questions and thoughts that come to your mind. You don’t need to turn this in, but have your questions and thoughts ready for the daily workshops. 2. As you read, make a list of key points or principles that are important to keep in mind when preparing a message. Use this list as a reference to write a paragraph about what you learned from the reading. Turn this in for HOM 1-2. 3. Write your introduction, application, and conclusion. Be prepared to share this in your workshop tomorrow.


HOM 1-3 - WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3RD Reading: Homiletics Notepack: sections “Jesus Style Communication”, “What Makes a Great Preacher?” Interaction: 1. As you read the section “Jesus Style Communication”, write down any questions and thoughts that come to your mind. You don’t need to turn this in, but have your questions and thoughts ready for the daily workshops. Note the four aspects of communication that Jesus used. 2. As you read, make a list of key points or principles that are important to keep in mind when preparing a message. Use this list as a reference to write a paragraph about what you learned from the reading. Turn this in for HOM 1-3. 3. Be prepared to do a rough run-through of your presentation in your workshop tomorrow 

HOM 1-4 - THURSDAY, OCTOBER 4TH 1. Prepare your final outline for your presentation using the model developed this week in class. Make a copy of this (your final outline) and turn it in for HOM 1-4. 2. Be ready to give your presentation tomorrow! Dress nicely! This is part of your grade.
