The Master of Arts in Art Education program allows experienced K-12 art educators to reconnect with the “art” in art education. Students pursue advancement in their field through the development of their practice as both artist and educator, and become more informed about teaching and classroom-based research as well as contemporary art. The program’s unique online/low-residency curriculum with a strong studio component is calendared to fit the lifestyle of artisteducators. By taking online courses during the academic year, two sixweek summer studio residencies on MICA’s campus, and a winter weekend seminar, students can earn their MA in 14 months while maintaining their full-time teaching positions. Expansive individual studios, located in MICA’s Fred Lazarus IV Center for Graduate Studies, are provided for the candidates while they are in residence during the summer sessions. WHO SHOULD APPLY
The MA in Art Education is designed for experienced art educators who are ready to pursue their development as artists, teachers, reflective practitioners, and leaders in the field of art education.
