Soundtrack to an Overdose is the result of a cross-continental collaboration. Smaawg, from Seattle WA and LLOM, from Manchester UK teamed up to create a crushing album that doesn’t sound like anything else I’ve ever heard.
How did this long distace collaboration begin?
LLOM: Our part of the project started with Crystal Maggot, we
wanted to make a track that sounded like the listener was going on a “whitey”. Over here that’s what they call it when you catch a bad vibe from taking too many drugs and drinking too much booze, you know that feeling -when you start sweating and go pale, usually the next step is being sick. The idea just developed from there. When we heard the stuff Smaawg was doing we were just blown away, to think there was someone on the other side of the world with a similar interpretation of dark emotions. Then all of a sudden, we got an email from Ethan (of Smaawg), and we were buzzing. I heard The Following and the lyrics virtually wrote them self.
How did you react to hearing your songs with LLOM’s vocals over it?
SMAAWG: It was the first time a Smaawg song had ever had vocals on
it. After I heard what LLOm had done it made me want to take Smaawg more seriously and showed me where I could take it.
How would you describe your music on Soundtrack to an Overdose? LLOM: “The best way I could describe is a quote from Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, “You took too much man, you took too much”... SMAAWG: It’s the little devil and the little angel on my shoulders...In other words it’s the voices in my head. Rose Ellen Swenson Art Rose Ellen Swenson is an illustrator based in Seattle Washington, US. Her work has been described as sexual, dark and soft. It is boldly adorned with flowers, geometric shapes, and undertones of innocence and sadness. Prints of her work are available at http://society6.com/ RoseEllenSwenson http://roseellenswenson.com
ABOUT THE ART “The fox purse is the result of my first attempt at wet felting. I felted a big rectangle out of Wensleydale roving, then sewed up the sides. I added the fox and flowers later by needle felting dyed Corriedale roving. I started watching Doctor Who earlier this year and then I started working at a knitting shop, so I really couldn’t resist knitting a Doctor Who sweater. I used a charcoal superwash wool for the body of the sweater, then used duplicate stitch afterward to stitch in the Tardis and Daleks. My work can mainly be found on my body, haha! But I do take commissions. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org” Simone Barry Bellingham, WA
