As a crucial component of any architecture project, working drawings must be created with extreme accuracy & insight. The drawings included range from site & oor plans to section & plan details. The drawings were completed over a 2-year study using AutoCAD.

Renderings are an important component to any design project to allow the client to visualize how the completed project will look. The following section includes both hand and computer renderings. Programs such as SketchUp, Revit, and Adobe Photoshop were used.

13

14

Rendering

Using provided floor plans, I worked to create a 3D model using SketchUp. Adobe Photoshop allowed me to create high quality textures and finishes to use for rendering the model. After rendering the model using iRender, Adobe Photoshop was used to add shadows and entourage.

The All Day Cafe project was rendered with photoshop alone. Using Adobe Photoshop, I created seamless textures, and applied shadow and entourage.

3D Cutaway - Parapet & Header Assembly

The Final Problem was a project to test the understanding of wall assembly construction. Using 5 assigned components, a 3D cutaway was to be drawn and rendered using SketchUp. 5 Components: Structure - Cast in Place Concrete InďŹ ll System - Continuous Steel Stud Vapour Barrier - SBS ModiďŹ ed Bitumen Self-adhered Membrane Insulation - Polystyrene Rigid Insulation Exterior Finish - Aluminum composite Panels Window - Gerkin 5500 Fixed Window Series

The Whole Life Medical Centre was developed in Revit using a oor plan imported from AutoCAD. This project focused on creating different phases of construction such as existing construction, demolition, and new construction. Another focus was to render an interior space using Revit rendering.

A variety of conceptual design projects helped develop an understanding of design principles. The project’s navigated the design process which included site analysis’, concept development, massing studies, bubble diagrams, and ďŹ nal design presentations.

ATB Financial - The Quarters Design Proposal Concept Statement: Edmonton is a city of many ethnicities, cultures, and religions. It is this diversity that allows for the COLLABORATION of ideas of science, art, education, medicine and business to create the great city that it is. The citizens of Edmonton collaborate to create an optimistic future, and inclusive and accepting home. ATB gives Albertan citizens the opportunity to hope and plan for the future, the opportunity to follow entrepreneurial dreams, create new technologies, and advance in their education. This ATB building was designed to create a space that invites the community in and provides them with the amenities to relax, promote, work, and bank. Elements were used in the design that create an open and airy feeling to welcome whoever may want to come in. The curves of the building compliment each other and collaborate to create the overall shape of the building. The curves come from the idea of the Yin and Yan in Korean culture, two complementary sides that collaborate to create one idea. The plant conservatory is a place where people can go and enjoy even during the cold months. The conservatory is a place of growth and beauty. Plants are known to help with stress and anxiety and improve productiveness. Teaming ATB, a place that promotes collaboration, with a conservatory, a place that emits a sense of calm, creates the perfect space for Edmontonians to

The local spotlight (right) is a sm small area at the end of the ďŹ replace where local thinkers and makers can display products to promote themselves. I really wanted to include a feature like this in the design as ATB is ready to support people’s visions.

The ATB Financial design project was a scholarship competition mpetition hosted by ATB Financial and Kasian Architecture. The project oject proposed the opportunity to explore the design process.. Along with design, incorporating current construction techniques ues was expected. The project requirements were to develop a concept oncept and design a bank and community space in downtown Edmonton. 27
