here are only a handful of men in the world who can bench press more than 800 lbs. An even smaller number can stand under a loaded bar and squat well over 1,000 lbs. But there is only one man who can do both on the same day, in addition to deadlifting 750 lbs. with ease. His name is Shawn Frankl, and he is MHP Strong. MHP superstar powerlifter Shawn crushed the all-time total record in the 220 lb. class at the SPF Pro/Am Championships on Saturday, August 21, 2010 with a 2,715 lb. three-lift total! Shawn finished with a 1060 squat, 875 bench press and 780 deadlift on his way to winning the meet, which was held in Fairfield, Ohio. Lifting heavy weights is nothing new to Shawn. He started pumping iron at age 12, and bench pressed 315 lbs. for the first time before his freshman year in high school. He qualified for Nationals in his first full power meet in 2001, without really knowing what he was doing. When he hooked up with the guys at Big Iron Gym in Omaha, Neb., a 90-minute drive from where he lives in Sioux City, Iowa, Frankl really began to experience success on the powerlifting platform. Yet it wasn’t until 2008, when Shawn first started using MHP supplements to fuel his workouts and recovery, that his incredible strength really began to take off. Shortly thereafter, the 5’ 6”, 212 pounder (in the offseason) set the world record for the greatest three lift total in the 220 lb. class (2,539 lbs.). And in 2009, he smashed the world mark in the 198 lb. category with a 1,055 lb. squat, 825 bench press and 750 deadlift, for a 2,360 total. By doing so, Shawn became the heaviest lifter ever to squat 5x his bodyweight and total over 13x his bodyweight! “I rely on MHP’s Dark Rage to get me pumped before each workout, and Dark Matter afterward for complete anabolic recovery,” he says of his daily supplement intake to match his super-intense training regimen. Shawn Frankl: World’s Strongest Powerlifter By Steve Downs, C.S.C.S. Iron Gym. He pretty much goes very heavy every week, so it’s more like what he has to handle at a meet. The 32-year-old’s lifting regimen involves lots of single attempts. “My opener squat at the Powerstation Pro was 960,” the muscular powerhouse explains. “So I started my training cycle nine weeks out and felt 960 on my back every week. The closer I got to the meet, the higher I worked up. I squatted 1000 in training, then hit 1055 in the meet.” On the bench press, he uses bench shirts after a few “raw” warm-ups every single week. He trains like this almost year-round. “I build my endurance to heavy weight,” Shawn states. “I’ll bench 135, 225, 315, 405, 500 and then 600 with a small board. Then I’ll hit 700, 800, 825, 855, 880 and even 900 using board training. I do lots of volume, but only 4-5 working sets. I’m constantly training heavy, heavy, heavy.” For deadlifts, the multiple world record holder does something totally different, employing lots of volume in higher rep ranges. He goes as high as 19 working reps in some sets. Shawn says it revs up his core strength and helps him battle fatigue, so at the meets he’s still fresh by the time the deadlift comes around. Overall, Frankl’s schedule looks like this: Monday – bench; Tuesday – shoulders; Wednesday – deadlifts, upper back and abs; Thursday – arms. On Friday he takes the day off, followed by squats, legs and abs on Saturday. Sunday is another day off from the weights. “My diet is pretty straightforward,” Shawn says regarding his nutrition plan. “In the morning I have six hardboiled eggs and natural peanut butter on toast. Then I’ll munch on trail mix with nuts. For lunch, I’ll have chicken breast or steak. For carbs at lunch I eat rice or a baked potato and broccoli. Before my workout I’ll down some oatmeal and eggs. Then immediately pre-training I’ll drink MHP’s Dark Rage. Immediately afterward, I always drink a Dark Matter shake.

“For supper it’s steak or chicken, plus some veggies,” he continues. “I’ll finish each day with a Probolic-SR protein shake right before bed, plus a dose of Cyclin-GF to help me recover better and stay anabolic overnight. I take Activite multivitamins each morning, and rely on MHP’s Releve joint compound to keep my joints healthy through all the heavy lifting. SARM-X and T-Bomb II are my favorite supplements for keeping my testosterone levels high, and I rely on XPEL at every meet to shed water naturally so I can make weight. “MHP supplements have been the key to getting stronger than ever and hitting continually heavier weight. I owe my success to MHP!”
