There is the context, the exhibits and the protagonists. Three, four, three. Four, three, four. Forty two chapters. Shall I begin? (Can I begin? Have I the gall and gumph necessary to prattle 42 chapters?) We start out bankrupt. This taxing time. (Perhaps this is a little harsh but having received my latest tax bill novels will not be on the cards for a while. As Marquez said writing is like boxing. You have to be fit, alert and concentrated.) How did I climb when I had no grip? These days I complain about things I could not have imagined all those days ago. ( A continuation.) I try to inhale the breath of years. What perfume then? What allure? (Were things better or worse in my autobiographical time? I wrote once: nose, receptacle of memory. Perhaps by sitting still, inhaling I will capture the past.) I see things. I hear things and breathe cold wind. (The other senses have their sense.) Rooms turn like a 33 disc crackling. Forgotten music in this time. (Music, play on.)
