Welcome to our special supplement celebrating the winners of the 2009 Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts Awards. A major factor in determining the long term success of any company is its ability to provide products that truly match customers’ needs along with a professional level of service. It is this belief that stands at the very heart of our annual awards.

Sylvia Waycot, Publisher of Moneyfacts, opened the proceedings with a warm welcome, before guests were treated to a delicious three course lunch. The awards were hosted by comedian Chris Barrie, renowned for his roles in television hits Red Dwarf and the Brittas Empire.

Now in their eighth year, the Investment Life & Pensions Moneyfacts awards recognise the providers that have delivered the most competitive products, the best levels of service and shown the greatest innovation during the last twelve months. There can be little doubt that operating in the current economic environment has provided a major challenge for many financial companies. In the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the ongoing credit crisis and continued stock market uncertainty, consumer confidence in the financial sector remains fragile. As a result, clients are increasingly looking for reassurance that the products they select offer good value for money.

Also presented at the ceremony were the inaugural winners of our Good Advice Awards, which recognise the country’s very best adviser organisations. Although it has been another difficult year for the financial services industry, product providers have not been resting on their laurels. Indeed, the testing environment appears to have encouraged even more providers to enhance their propositions and improve their customer service in an attempt to stand out from the crowd. With competition in this year’s categories particularly fierce, identifying the very best providers has been no mean feat.

Our awards are based on a combination of the analytical expertise of our research team and the opinions of our IFA readership who advise on a daily basis. After all, who is in a better position than you, the adviser, to know which products really work for your clients? This year a record number of IFAs cast their votes online for their favourite providers, testament to their

To keep pace with the continuously evolving financial services landscape three new categories were introduced this year: Best Third Way Product Provider, Best Enhanced Annuity Provider and Best Group Protection Provider. Whilst some providers successfully retained the awards they won last year, there are also a number of companies which collected a trophy for the first time. We have maintained our presence in the defined benefit market. As with all our options, our proposition is designed to be flexible. Employers and trustees can decide which services they want us to provide and they only pay for what they use. We also specialise in pensions for individuals. Pension Portfolio is our single lifestyle solution that can act as a personal pension, a SIPP and as an income drawdown plan, using our award winning Income Release facility, all in the same wrapper.
