WASTE & CO-MINGLED RECYCLING CURBSIDE INFORMATION WASTE & RECYCLING COLLECTION SCHEDULE Waste and recycling collection is provided on a five-day rotating schedule. Your collection day will change after each statutory holiday.

WASTE TRANSFER STATION 8609 -111 STREET The Recycle Station will continue to be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week for all regular household recyclables such as paper, plastics, milk jugs, grass clippings, cardboard, glass, newspaper and tin. For all other waste please refer to the Waste Transfer Station information shown below. TRANSFER STATION DISPOSAL FEES APPLY

Blue bag recycling is easy to do with no sorting required! Just place your clean recyclables loosely into blue transparent plastic bags and set them out for collection on your scheduled garbage collection day, two feet away from regular garbage. Transparent blue "Shell" recycle sacks are available at the Dow Centennial Recreation Centre, City Hall, Planning and Public Works & Community & Protective Services. Do not use green or black garbage bags for recycled products because they will be collected as regular garbage. What Items ARE Acceptable for Recycling? Paper Metals - no loose lids - trap inside can or discard Newspapers and inserts, magazines, catalogues, Clean tin cans (soup, juice, etc), aluminum containers writing paper, computer paper, cards, junk mail, paper (pie plates) & aluminum cans (beverages). bags, envelopes, paper back & hard covered books (remove hard covers), phone books and paper egg Glass - empty, clean & discard lids - labels are okay cartons. Place shredded paper in a separate bag. Jars and bottles only. Examples: Pickle, Jam, Ketchup & Beverage. No other type of glass is acceptable. Cardboard Flattened, corrugated cardboard boxes, cereal and food boxes (remove and discard liner), milk cartons (rinse & flatten), shoe boxes, brown paper bags and juice boxes. Large cardboard must be cut to 3 to 4 foot lengths and tied with a string.

Plastics - discard caps and lids; empty, rinse & squish Household cleaner bottles, pop and beverage bottles, detergent or fabric softener bottles, plastic bags, milk jugs, margarine and yogurt containers. Make sure the plastic displays the recycle symbol.

What Items are NOT Acceptable for Recycling? Contamination is serious. If a bag contains non-recyclable materials, the bag will be disposed of at the landfill.

DATES TO REMEMBER - WATCH THE "CITY PAGE" IN THE FORT RECORD FOR INFORMATION ON YOUR COLLECTION DAY 1 Place waste out for collection by 7:00 a.m. Daily collection times may vary from week to week. 2 Ensure your waste is located adjacent to the curb. 3 Place your co-mingled recycled product a minimum of 2 feet away from your garbage. 4 Park your vehicles away from pickup locations along roads and lanes. 5 Make sure the waste is visible to the driver and there is clear access to the waste containers. 6 The driver is required to complete his route each day. The more waste, the later your collection time may be. GENERAL WASTE DISPOSAL INFORMATION √ Household refuse must be contained in plastic garbage bags or cans. Please do not overfill. √ Filled containers should be no more than 22.7 kgs (50 lbs). √ Leaves and grass clippings can be disposed of at the Recycling Station. √ Large household items may be disposed of at the Transfer Station during regular hours of operation. √ Clippings from trees and shrubs and carpet will be picked up if tied in bundles no longer than √

Ant and rodent killers, weed killers, pesticides, pool chemicals, toilet, drain and tile cleaners, pharmaceuticals, battery acid, gasoline, rust inhibitors, removers, motor oil, brake and transmission fluid, septic tank cleaners, drain and window cleaners, disinfectants, oven cleaners, bleach and ammonia, cleaning solvents and spot removers, paint, paint thinners, strippers, solvents, lacquers, stains, varnishes, wood preservers, asphalt and roof tar, propane bottles, car and household batteries, health care products, antifreeze, and solvents.

Note: Household and car batteries, propane bottles, paint, anti-freeze and motor oil are accepted at the Transfer Station year round during regular Transfer Station hours. Large Household Item Curbside Collection Watch your local newspaper for additional information (Large Item Pickup: April 26 - April 30, 2010).
