Bridge near the city of Herning DENMARK

Near the city of Herning, Denmark, a bridge was erected to cross a stream. Soft soil could not transmit the loads from the 5 meter high bridge ramps made by normal weight gravel. The solution was to fill the ramps with Leca® light filling and to dig out 2,5 meters and replace it with Leca® light filling. The reduced weight of the ramps resulted in unchanged

loads on the sub-soil and consequently no settings. A total of 13.000 m3 Leca® was installed. The year of construction was 2005. The client was the Danish Road Directorate. Consulting engineers Rambøll A/S designed the geotechnical solution. Contractor was MT Højgaard A/S in Risskov.
