2022 MSG Ring Masters Championships New York Metro Area’s Premier Amateur Boxing Tournament Returns to Madison Square Garden After a 2 Year Absence adison Square Garden’s Hulu Theater hosted a sell-out Mcrowd on Thursday evening,June 16th 2022, for the Annual MSG Ring Masters Championships organized by U.S.A. Boxing Metro and Madison Square Garden. The evening of championship amateur boxing featured twenty-four scheduled bouts representing winning athletes who earned a place on the card through their performance in the Metropolitan Qualifier: Road to the Garden conducted over the course of the prior two months throughout the New York metropolitan region by U.S.A. Boxing Metro. The forty-eight participants were scheduled to compete in the MSG Ring Masters Championships, representing twenty-three regional boxing clubs, were narrowed down from a field of 600 athletes drawn from fifty-four clubs.

This year’s Metropolitan Qualifier: The Road to Garden, was the year’s premier amateur boxing event in the New York metropolitan region. The Metropolitan Qualifier: Road to the Garden and the culminating MSG Ring Masters Championships at Madison Square Garden provided an opportunity for both men and women, ranging in age from 8 years old through masters level. Participating athletes included boxers from all five NYC boroughs and the eight surrounding counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Rockland, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan and Ulster. For those competing in the 8 – 18 year old age group, the goal is a chance to qualify for the Junior National Olympics which will take place in Wichita, Kansas on July 9-16. For those fighting in the 19 – 40 year old group, the prize will be a shot at the National Golden Gloves Tournament scheduled for August 15-20 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

One notable item about this year’s Metropolitan Qualifier is the return of the tournament’s culmi-

nating event to Madison Square Garden following the Covid-19 pandemic closure of most public event spaces in New York City. Madison Square Garden, billed as the World’s Most Famous Arena, has been home to the historic bouts of Jack Dempsey vs Bill Brennan (1920), Sugar Ray Robinson vs Henry Armstrong (1943), Joe Louis vs Rocky Marciano (1951), and, of course, Muhammed Ali vs Joe Frazier I (1971) and II (1974). On this night it was home to an aspiring group of boxing luminaries.

In Their Own Words What an Amazing Experience this has been! To not only fight under the bright lights at Madison Square Garden but to walk out Victorious! I cannot put into words how i feel. My grandfather was able to come from Puerto Rico to watch me fight at MSG, how amazing is that!? This is an experience i will never forget and i am grateful that my family was ringside cheering me on, i love y’all. I want to give a huge thank you to @ danny_dont_do_it for all the hard work he has put in. I want to thank everyone at @champsboxingclub who has been there for me in any way shape or form. I also want to thank all the females in the shadows. Some who i never met but somehow we follow each other here on IG. I want to thank all of you ladies for the love and support, the private messages the motivation and genuine love and respect you show me. Thank you to @usaboxingmetro and @slamonakisboxing for making this all possible. Thank you to all the great photographers who capture some amazing action shots. Now i told you guys i was fighting my way out the gulags and into the garden and BOOM goes the dynamite. I made it & took home the W. But it aint over yet its a TRILOGY BABY and we got 1 more to go before i can end this chapter! And guess what yall aint seen nothing yet.

Cathy Jimenez (@catmartinez)

My experience in the Ring Masters Tournament was amazing, I got to fight the number one kid in the nation with around 80+ fights and I was on my 20th but I loved the competition. This is what is keeping me out of trouble and especially fighting in front of everyone at Madison Square Garden. Even though I came in second place, I still had an excellent experience - like no other, but I will definitely be doing it next year again.

In Their Own Words When I first started boxing I had no idea where it would take me, what started as a hobby has led to one of the defining achievements of my life. Fighting in the Garden under the bright lights and cheered on by my loved ones was a tremendous experience. It wouldn’t have been possible without my sparring partners and coaches, Danny Nicholas and Colin Morgan, both of whom devoted countless hours to helping me grow and find the confidence to believe in myself. However further I go in the sport of boxing, fighting in the Ringmasters will forever be the event which cemented my passion for the sport and inspired me to be more ambitious than ever. Zinnat Ferdous

My coach had been trying to find me fights for months with no results so we decided to take a gamble and sign me up for the Ringmasters tournament because I was eager to fight and start gaining experience. It was indeed a challenge to enter with no fight experience and eventually find myself at the finals at MSG against a seasoned opponent with 18 fights at the elite level, who also won the National Golden Gloves. Considering I stepped in the ring with only one fight I’ll have to accept the split decision in favor of my opponent. I’ll grow from this and I take it as a blessing to have had the opportunity to box at the Garden. Tara Bassim

In Their Own Words 6/16/22 The “Mecca of Boxing” Madison Square Garden: A Privilege and an Honor in the highest degree to fight there. Whooped @$$, checked a chin couple times, punched through guards and woobled some legs. In exactly 1 month the final 3 (or less) of this 9 round/ 3 fight Trilogy will be take place and a Champion will be crowned. @usaboxingmetro MANY thank yous for making @ring_masters_official possible and especially this event possible it was a long time coming since it was sadly called off in 2020. To all that came out in support, utmost gratitude.

Jaclyn McAllister

Behind every truly dedicated fighter you’ll find the most dedicated coaches and trainers. I’m blessed to have three guardian angels who are taking me on this epic journey. The compassionate coaching from Leo, the loyalty and love from Moises and the daily encouragement and inspiration from Henry makes me work even harder. I’m not just showing up for myself but for these boys too. They know we’re training in preparation for everything life throws at us, not just for one event
