Celebrating Excellence

Customer top priority at Nancy’s Impressions After years of working as a clothing buyer for women’s fashion stores, Nancy Code-Miller was looking for a new challenge. Instead of picking out clothing for other stores, she wanted to do it for her own store. The decision was simple for the Carleton Place native: Code-Miller opened Nancy’s Impressions in her hometown. That was 27 years ago and Code-Miller is still enjoying the rewards of this venture today. Each day is different for her, especially because she is committed to being involved in all aspects of her business. “That’s the most exciting part of retail,” said Code-Miller. “You never know what your day will bring.”

After 13 years you still like our buns!!

Not only does Code-Miller take care of paperwork and other business operations typical of a storeowner, but she also handles small jobs like window cleaning and

alterations, which Nancy’s Impressions offers without charge on all regular-priced clothing. The alteration service is just one way that Nancy’s Impressions shows its commitment to its customers. The store’s small staff are always happy to greet shoppers, which range from regulars to visitors from the city, and help them find what they are looking for among the vast stock of Canadian-made clothing in store. “The customer is the first priority, and their satisfaction is the most important thing we do in the day,” said Code-Miller. To experience the friendly service and browse through everything from sportswear to formal wear, pay Nancy and her staff a visit at 149 Bridge St. or call 613-257-2124.

This provides residents with a variety of leisure activities to choose from that suit their lifestyle and preferences. We are very active in the local community, engaging in charity functions and supporting local businesses. The satisfaction of our residents is proof that the Manor is doing things right. Homemade meals are served daily and the health of our residents is a top priority. We are pet-friendly with a number of residents having their own pets. At Neilcorp Homes, we’ll build you the new home you’ve always dreamed of. We offer award-winning, high-quality, and affordable new homes with more customization options than you’d ever expect. Receive up to $100,000 in added value and upgrades on 50’ and 60’ oversized lots from Neilcorp Homes. We’ve been building stunning homes for over 19 years. Neilcorp owner Doug McIntosh, who comes from Almonte, began building custom homes in 1991. Though initially Doug built custom homes on individual lots, he wanted to integrate his custom homes building experience into building larger new home developments and communities. Neilcorp’s unique custom home building experience means that we’re able to offer customization options in our new home developments that are far beyond what you’ll find with other Ottawa home builders. Robert Dick joined Doug as a partner at Neilcorp Homes in May of 2002, and the two moved into building small unique new home developments in Almonte and in other areas near Ottawa in addition to customer homes. Neilcorp has been registered with Tarion since 1994, guaranteeing that our homes showcase superior quality and workmanship for every one of our clients. Since its inception, it has been Neilcorp Homes’ mission to provide our clients with homes that are customized in unique and exciting ways. We have taken our vast experience in custom homes and applied it to the new home developments that we build. Keeping the absolute highest standards in mind has resulted in better homes, happier clients, and eventually, 318 Wilson Street, RR#3, Appleton

Neilcorp Homes has certainly grown over the years, but it remains small enough that we are able to offer personalized service and customer care to every one of our clients, whether they’re buying a two-bedroom bungalow in our current development, Riverfront Estates, or a two-story custom home on their own property. Doug still oversees every one of the custom homes we build, and he has personal consultations with clients to help them bring their visions to life. Valley Design Co. making customers feel at home “When you sell a good product, especially paint, you don’t tend to see them back very soon. They really don’t need to repaint for quite a while.” Paul remarks.

As owners of Valley Design Co. in downtown Carleton Place, they attempt to understand their customers, and help guide them in their home decoration and painting. They understand the passion involved in owning a home, and want to share in the excitement.

Carrying a wide variety of high quality paints, wall coverings, and blinds makes sense to the Sorfleets. It’s what they’re passionate about.

Fully Licensed Mon Closed, Tues-Thurs 8am-4pm, Fri 8am-10pm, Sat and Sun 9am-4pm

Living in the shadow of the big box stores isn’t something that worries them. “If we don’t have a contractor’s full order in stock, we will get them the product the next day,” says Paul. They sometimes make house calls to look at a room in person.

613-257-7284 31 Bridge Street, Carleton Place

Even first-time visitors will feel right at home in the warm atmosphere the Sorfleets have created. And that is a testament to their truly wonderful design talents.

“People come back for the service,” says Donna Sorfleet, also affectionately known as the “Colour Lady.” By making a connection with the customers, Paul and Donna have earned a number of repeat customers, although they don’t always see them as often as they would like.

International Cuisine Fabulous Desserts Organic Coffee, Espresso

Many people say a home should be a symbol of the owner’s personality. After spending years building their own log home, this is a philosophy that Donna and Paul Sorfleet actively engage in.

Ballygiblin’s Serves up Fresh & Local

“Buying local pays off in many ways.” says head chef Roger Weldon. Not only is the food that Ballygiblin’s serves local and fresh, but the huge network of local food producers also helps word of mouth get around about the restaurant. And it’s a two-way street says Levesque. “People often ask where we get our ingredients, and we tell them exactly where to go to get the same products.”

And that commitment to cutting down waste goes beyond just food.

525 High Street, Carleton Place, ON 613-257-5921 • Owner: Joyce Murray

The menu at Ballygiblin’s is an electric mix of local ingredients, local products with a “big city twist.” Even the majority of beer on tap at Ballygiblin’s is from within 100 miles. Ballygiblin’s is an innovative restaurant that is sure to please any appetite, local or not.

“We don’t like to waste anything, so we try to diversify our line of food, to make sure we are getting the most out of our products,” says Weldon. By using various different cuts of meat, and trying to create a menu that uses food that are in season, Ballygiblin’s is creating food that is sustainable, as well as enjoyable.

Thank you for voting for us in the Canadian Gazette’s Readers’ Choice Awards! Diamond – Mattress Shop Platinum – Appliance Store & Furniture Store

Firm believers in recycling and environmental stewardship, Weldon and Levesque have been recycling oil with a local biodiesel user for years. Since they began an aggressive recycling program for the restaurant, they have found that their waste is rapidly decreasing.

When Derek Levesque and Roger Weldon opened Ballygiblin’s on Carleton Place’s Bridge Street, they knew they wanted to create something different in their restaurant. Four Years later, they have built a solid reputation on good food, and positive environmental business practices. Ballygiblin’s is described as per upper casual by the two restaurateurs. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, the decor is edgy and visually pleasing, and the food is second to none.

Quality and Craftsmanship for your Home or Office Exclusive Window Coverings is the place to go for the very best in custom-designed window fashions for your home or office. Exclusive Window Coverings opened in Carleton Place in August 2000, and after 8 years, had outgrown our location and moved into a custom built building on Townline Rd. The new location is triple the size which allows us to serve you better. Everything is made here on the premises; we have a workroom on site. This allows us to provide quality products in a timely manner. Window Coverings don’t just add beauty to your home; they add value to your home as well for many reasons. Energy efficient coverings such as indoor shutters and cellular shades will help keep the temperature steady in your home, no matter the season. This will cut your heating and air conditioning costs. They also add equity to your home; you are making an investment when you purchase window coverings. Exclusive Window Coverings also offers full-service decorating for your home. Not only do we design and manufacture window

coverings, we also sell duvets, duvet covers, shams, sheets and pillows to name a few. Our bedding is very luxurious and is matched perfectly to create the atmosphere you desire. Other services that are offered through Exclusive Window Coverings are paint colour consultations as well as home staging. Before selling your home you must prepare it for others to see it to its full potential. We will help pick paint colours, re-arrange your furniture as well as depersonalize your home for a faster and easier sell. How does it work when you want Exclusive Window Coverings to update your home? We ask a few questions when the client calls or comes in. Based on the information given regarding furniture, colours and flooring, we then visit the client for an in-home consultation with fabrics and samples that we know will suit the client’s tastes. From the in home consultation to the finished product, it generally takes four to six weeks to manufacture everything. We then return with the product and install it. We take pride in the quality and craftsmanship of our work.

Thanks for making us your favorite outdoor patio pub!
