Worth Doing the Right Way Prior to MetroCount, traffic surveying was often regarded as an inexact science. But with proven accuracy above 99%, MetroCount equipment is now the pinnacle of traffic monitoring. With thorough error checking on every vehicle detection, MTE provides a high degree of accountability in its interpretation.
Managing Traffic Survey Networks MTE incorporates survey management features to ensure the network is properly covered with sites routinely monitored. In addition, the Site Lists tool ensures survey personnel and contractors carry out surveys at GPS coordinates consistent with naming conventions.

Advanced Filtering Options
MTE uses a report Profile system to allow detailed filtering and reporting of traffic data. Profiles contain information about the filtering of traffic by class, time, speed, direction, separation and more. Profiles can be saved for later use as well as copied and pasted to consistently compare any data sets.
Automate with Batch Scripting MTE includes functionality to automate the analysis of multiple datasets. Compile standardized reports in a single script and simply run them on all future traffic surveys for simple, consistent traffic analysis.
Tablet Operation in the Field Field operators can take advantage of small form-factor Windows tablets with a full sized USB port to set up counts. MTE is developed to operate on computers running a Windows operating system.

Referencing speed against time, class, volume and separation highlights how a road is effected by certain conditions. The RoadPod® VT pneumatic tube classifier is one of the most widely used traffic survey units on the globe and has been scrutinized by independent scientific studies since the first version came into production many years ago. Uptake of the RoadPod VT has increased in recent years as traffic engineers make use of the advanced analytics to improve understanding of road conditions and guide road works. Customize signal phases in MTE
Monitoring traffic at signal controled intersections and level crossings provides critical information regarding driver behavior. MetroCount’s RoadPod® PhaseT is a unique approach to collecting detailed traffic data, synchronized with intersection signal timings. The PhaseT is similar to our industry standard 5600 model with the addition of an optical fiber interface, to detect and record changing signal phases in parallel with traffic data.
MTE allows users to take advantage of common signal phases or define their own Phase Maps for customized interpretation. Signal phases for traffic lights are synchronized with the traffic data.
Look beyond crash data Relying only on existing crash data to analyze driver behavior at intersections provides no mechanism to identify potential issues before an accident occurs. Monitoring driver behavior at a signalized intersection allows preventative action can be taken based on empirical evidence, without having to wait for the crash statistics to accumulate.
Common use examples: Pairing traffic data with traffic signals has a number of implications in traffic management and enforcement. • Isolating volume and speed during the yellow or warning phase of traffic lights to assess driver reaction times and inform signal timing. • Analysis of driver behavior at intersections to direct intersection design and modification. • Classification of vehicles crossing intersections during different phases including during the red light phase to identify potential infringements by vehicle class.

Permanent Vehicle Monitoring
ong term, continuous traffic studies provide pertinent information and trends to assist in planning new road works, upgrades and maintenance as well as assisting traffic management plans. Year-on-year data can identify traffic growth patterns and seasonal road usage trends. MetroCount permanent survey sites are often installed on major arterial roads or roads of strategic interest and can be automated to electronically provide traffic information via email or the internet to managers at regular intervals. Permanent sites provide the same detailed traffic data as all other MetroCount products with the same benefits of consistency and high reliability. Congestion statistics can be analyzed and compared with historical data to provide traffic engineers with peak road usage data over time. Increased understanding of the influencing factors to periods of congestion can assist with effective traffic management. Additionally, permanent traffic sites provide a sound

MC Piezo Test Detailed summary of piezo installations The MC Piezo Test is the only unit of its kind in the world, providing detailed diagnostic information on the installation of piezoelectric strips. RoadPod® VL Vehicle Loop Counter
Inductive Loop Detection
Two Models, Two Applications The two RoadPod VL models serve two distinct applications while both connecting to inductive loops. The 5810 model detects signals from two loops per lane to provide length based classification, volume and speed, from two lanes per counter. The 5805 is designed for binned volume counts, connecting to a single loop per lane from up to four lanes per counter.
Length Based Classification With detection of vehicles based on beginning and end rather than each axle, the 5810 provides accurate length classification with time stamps triggered when a vehicle enters and exits each inductive loop field.
Standard length-based schemes define vehicle classes, but as always with MTE, custom schemes can be created with any number of length classes.
Four Lanes Of Binned Data The 5805 Model has four inputs to accurately count up to four lanes of traffic. Fully configurable bin size, thresholds, and lockout times allow for customisation at each site. The 5805 is designed for projects where volume information is required providing up to 4 years of data memory. Binned counts allow the unit to collect data for extended time periods and with the addition of a solar panel to replenish the internal battery the unit can record long-term volumes at remote sites.
Real Counts at Car Parks and Toll Gates With variable loop shape and size the 5805 is suited for collecting volumes even at low speeds. With the ability to detect vehicles even where lane discipline is poor, the 5805 can be adapted to a range of locations and applications.
Loop Diagnostic Tools
MetroCount’s RoadPod® VL utilises inductive loop sensors to detect when vehicles enter and exit an inductive field. Contractors familiar with traffic signal sensors will find installation of MetroCount specified loop sensors straightforward. RidePod® BP Bike Piezo Counter Detailed Network Performance High Sensitivity Detection
The RidePod BP uses paired piezoelectric sensors embedded in the pavement to detect bikes. As a bike passes over, these sensors react to the changes in pavement distress recording two timestamps for each axle providing the high accuracy in detection. MetroCount has developed proprietary equipment and algorithms to detect and process these bike signals, providing useful data outputs.
Monitoring the speed and headway of bike paths can help to identify potential hazards. Filtering volumes by speed and direction provides a visualisation of conditions during peak and off-peak cycling periods helping to identify cycling modes.
With detailed axle data, MTE is able to determine accurate direction of travel, providing useful details of bike flows during commuter periods.
For permanent bike monitoring, MetroCount’s discreet roadside cabinet has been purpose built to securely house components. Weatherproof construction ensures equipment is protected from the elements and the fixed solar panel and 3G modem provide autonomous power and remote data connection.

Remote Access Traffic Data Collection

FieldPodÂŽ adds the benefits of remote communication to both temporary and permanent MetroCount technologies. Developed in order to improve efficiency by reducing or even eliminating hours spent at the roadside, FieldPod is the result of continued engagement and collaboration with traffic professionals around the world.
Built in Redundancy for Continuity The modularity of the FieldPod systems enables an unmatched level of data recording redundancy. In the event of network failures or internal battery failure, sites will continue to record traffic data. Reliable fail safes systems allow road managers to schedule repairs at their convenience without any data loss. Sites monitored remotely decrease the cost of routine visits and minimize interruptions to traffic.

Manage Sites in MTE Like all MetroCount products, FieldPod® is operated within our MTE® software. Remote access allows operation of road side units in the same manner as a direct connection. Check data quality, unload data, monitor voltage and check a counters status all without leaving the office.
Compatibility FieldPod is compatible with all MetroCount sensor technologies. Compatible counters can be retrofitted with suitable infrastructure to add remote data access post purchase. If required, FieldPod sites can be monitored manually to perform regular site diagnostics and downloads.
