What does working with jewellery, gemstones and watches mean to you? Eva Lohri: Every day we are involved with happy occasions, satisfied customers and wonderful products. That brings us all a lot of joy.
BIANCA LOHRI WAS BORN WITH A FLAIR FOR EXTRAORDINARY JEWELLERY. TODAY SHE PLAYS AN ACTIVE PART IN THE DESIGN OF THE LOHRI COLLECTIONS.
Your whole family is involved in the business now. What makes this special? Franz Lohri: In short, the most demanding objectives are easier to achieve by working together. Bianca Lohri: That’s exactly right. Every member of the family has their own strengths. And when those strengths are combined and brought into the business, it means better results can be achieved. What is the role of tradition in your business? Eva Lohri: Jewellery is often made to last for generations – and we are in our second generation of jewellery making. Franco Lohri: Tradition is the be-all and end-all in our trade. It’s in our DNA, our genetic make-up. And yet there have been changes. Franz Lohri: The desire to make beautiful pieces of the highest technical quality has caused us to develop the technology we use. These new creations also needed more space, and additional display windows were created. So we have grown – in terms of both space and technology. Have you noticed any changes on the part of your clientele, too? Franco Lohri: We involve our customers in the creation of our products. This means that good customer relations and excellent service are indispensable. It’s true that customers are getting ever more demanding, and in response to this we never stand still. What does the opening of your second Lohri shop at Neugasse 27 mean to you? Eva Lohri: We can now display our high-quality products to even better effect, in beautiful surroundings with a wonderful atmosphere and rich history.
«JEWELLERY IS MADE TO LAST FOR GENERATIONS.»
How did you come to specialise in this aquamarine? Franz Lohri: Gemstone cutters are also gemstone collectors. When their collections are inherited, for example, and the next generation decides they should be sold, then you have to grasp your opportunity. Bianca Lohri: This was how we came by a major collection from the fourth generation of a family of gemstone cutters. You can admire some unique pieces from this source in our Franco Lohri collection. The Franco Lohri jewellery line also demonstrates your skill as goldsmiths. What are its special features? Franco Lohri: We are completely uncompromising in the standards we set for all our goldsmithing and jewellery-making work. Bianca Lohri: An example: however beautiful a piece looks from the front, the back must also be perfect. This is our philosophy.
You have been Patek Philippe dealers for over 30 years. How did you come to be a purveyor of the top name among watches? Franz Lohri: The senior people at Patek Philippe recognised that our high quality, handmade jewellery creations embody precisely the same values as their own: craftsmanship, aesthetics, quality and perfection. Will you continue down the same route in future? Or will the new shop bring radical change? Franco Lohri: Just like Patek Philippe, we want to remain true to our values among our target clientele in our new premises. As I said before, they’re very similar. What are your personal favourite items of jewellery and why? Bianca Lohri: That’s almost impossible to answer. I’m sure we’d all agree that it’s like asking a large family, «Which is your favourite child?»
