Phillies bring the bacon Gone are the days when going to the ballpark meant a hot dog, soda or Cracker Jacks. And that isn’t a bad thing. The Phillies and Aramark unveiled some of the delicious new dishes available to fans at Citizens Bank Park this year, and some of them look (and taste) like they’re straight out of a gourmet restaurant on Rittenhouse Square. “It’s a very exciting year for us,” said Jeremy Campbell, concessions manager for Aramark at CBP. “This year we took a different approach: fans first.” One interesting feature in the ballpark will be the deli pastrami sandwich. “This is an actual labor of love,” Campbell said. “It’s a five-day cooking process, all in-house. It’s absolutely amazing. It’s a sandwich that is just as good, if not better than a deli pastrami sandwich.”

Spring snowfall is forecast in Delaware Valley More snow?! The Philadelphia area hasn’t seen just yet the last of winter. A spring snowstorm will hit the area Tuesday, bringing with it strong winds, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly (NWS). With an 80 percent chance of precipitation throughout the day, NWS is calling for an inch or more of wet snow to fall in Philadelphia on Tuesday. The snow should begin falling sometime after 11 a.m. Tuesday. Less than

an inch is expected during the day, but about an inch could fall at night. “Temperatures Tuesday night will fall below freezing, and slick spots on untreated roadways and walkways would develop,” according to an NWS briefing report. A high of 38 is forecast for Tuesday, when southeast winds are expected at 7 mph during the day. The wind would pick up at night, when it will come from the northeast at 10 to 14 mph. Sustained northwest winds of 16 to 25 mph are expected Wednesday, with gusts of up to 37 mph.

NWS forecasts a more seasonable high of 48 degrees for Thursday.

Search. Hundreds still missing after deadly Washington mudslide As many as 108 people were listed as missing two days after a mudslide hit dozens of homes and killed at least eight people in Washington state, but many individuals still unaccounted for are ultimately expected to turn up safe, authorities said on Monday. Still, emergency

management officials expressed doubt that anyone else would be plucked alive from the muck and debris, and concern lingered about flooding from water backing up behind a crude dam of mud and rubble dumped into a river by Saturday’s slide.

Malaysia said on Monday that a missing jetliner had crashed into the Indian Ocean, an announcement that was greeted with hysteria by Chinese relatives of those on board and a demand by China that Kuala Lumpur share all the evidence it had on the incident. Citing groundbreaking satellite-data analysis by the British company Inmarsat, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said that Flight MH370 crashed thousands of miles away in the southern Indian Ocean. His statement may go some way toward tamp-

ing down some of the more fevered speculation about the plane’s fate, including one theory some grief-stricken relatives had seized on: that the plane had been hijacked and forced to land somewhere. Najib’s announcement opens the way for what could be one of the most costly and challenging air crash investigations in history. The launch of an official air crash investigation would give Malaysia power to coordinate and sift evidence, but it may still face critics, especially in China. REUTERS

GM sued over a fatal crash tied to ignition defect Oversight. The recall has prompted investigations by federal prosecutors and regulators. General Motors Co. has been hit with what is believed to be the first wrongful death lawsuit over ignition switch problems since it recalled 1.6 million vehicles in February. The lawsuit was filed late on Friday in Minnesota state court on behalf of three teenage girls who were severely injured or killed in a 2006 crash involving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, one of the models GM recalled over ignition problems. GM announced the re-

call in February, despite learning of problems with the ignition switch in 2001 and issuing related service bulletins to dealers with suggested remedies in 2005. The lawsuit accuses GM of knowing about the defect for a decade but failing to take steps to fix the vehicles or get them off the roads. “GM hid this dangerous, life-threatening defect from my clients and all other Cobalt drivers for over a decade just to avoid the cost of a recall,” said a lawyer for the families, Robert Hilliard of Hilliard Munoz Gonzales, in a statement. “GM is guilty of betraying our trust.” A spokesman for GM, Jim Cain, said the company would respond to the lawsuit in due course. “Right

now, our biggest focus is on getting these vehicles recalled as quickly as we can with as little inconvenience to customers as possible.” According to the lawsuit, the Chevy Cobalt’s ignition switch suddenly turned from the “run” to “accessory” position, causing the steering, breaking and airbag systems to lose power. The car’s driver, 19-year-old Megan Phillips, lost control of the car, which careened off the road and struck a telephone junction box and two trees, the lawsuit said. The crash killed Amy Rademaker, 15, and Natasha Weigel, 18, and caused Phillips to sustain severe injuries to her brain and body, according to the lawsuit. The surviving family members of Rademaker and Weigel, as well as Phillips, are each seeking more than $50,000, said Hilliard.

Bombing response is a world model Boston’s handling of the bombing attack on its marathon in April has become a model for cities around the world on how to respond to tragedy, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said on Monday, as the city made its final preparations for this year’s race. “The chaos of those moments is hard to describe,” Patrick said of the minutes after two bombs exploded at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. Public officials, law enforcement agencies and medical workers acted seamlessly in their reaction to the attack, securing the scene and helping victims, while the city’s residents supported each other in the long aftermath, Patrick said. Youngest Billionaires list revealed Rich kids. They don’t all work at Facebook or Google. Of the world’s 1,645 billionaires, the youngest isn’t a straight white man, as it has been traditionally. Nor is it someone who works at Facebook or Google. The world’s youngest billionaire is Perenna Kei, a Japanese woman who has a very large stake in Logan Property Holdings — and a sizable family trust fund. This is Kei’s first time making Forbes’ Youngest Billionaires list, which names the 31 billionaires under the age of 40. Also making the list are

Facebook head honchos Sean Parker and Mark Zuckerberg, of course, as well as WhatsApp founder Jan Korum. Zuckerberg has a net worth of $28.5 billion, proving that despite all the talk of Facebook fatigue the company is still going strong 10 years after its launch. Dropbox co-founder Drew Houston also made the list, owing to the massive success of his sixth startup. Thirteen of the 31 billionaires on the list are from the United States and mostly involved in technology or real estate. Outside of the U.S., there is Germany’s Albert von Thurn und Taxis, the 12th prince in his family and a real estate mogul. This bachelor lives in a castle in Bavaria. Thirtytwo-year-old Yang Huiyan

is one of the few women on the list. She resides in China, where she oversees the real estate company Country Garden. In the Middle East is 33-yearold Fahd Hariri, son of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, who was assassinated in 2005. Hariri left Beirut after his father’s killing and lives in Saudi Arabia, where he works in real estate. Family money is, not surprisingly, a big factor in getting on the list, but as the startup moguls show sometimes it just takes good old fashioned hard work paired with one brilliant idea to lead an entrepreneur to a billion dollars. The tipping point

When not to tip Post says you don’t need to tip if it’s not the kind of establishment that generally accepts tips. For example, visiting your dry cleaner or getting your eyeglasses bent back into shape are interactions that do not require tips. A free bang trim, however, deserves a tip, since you would normally tip a hairstylist for a cut.

Navigating the world of tipping can be anxiety-inducing. Even restaurants, which seem straightforward enough, can be confusing: For example, should you tip for bad service? Luckily, Lizzie Post, great-great-granddaughter of Emily Post and coauthor of “Emily Post’s Etiquette, 18th Edition,â€? gave us a guide on when and how much to tip. •

Delivery people: The rule of thumb here is to tip all delivery people between 10 and 15 percent of the bill — and that includes grocery deliveries, as well.

•

Counter service: There’s no need to tip for counter service, even if the server brings dishes to your table. “You’re not coming to a sit-down meal where you’re being serviced and the expectation is for you to tip the waiter, Post explains.

•

Sit-down restaurants: Tip your waiter between 15 and 20 percent, pre-tax. There’s never an obligation

to tip the maitre d’ or the manager — and certainly don’t give them a tip in advance. “You give a tip after someone has given you good service as a way of saying thank you,â€? says Post. “You don’t use it as a away to bribe or buy someone’s better service.â€? But even if your service is terrible, you can’t skimp on the tip. “Leave the minimum 15 percent tip,â€? says Post. “And then tell the manager it was really atrocious service.â€? If your service was above and beyond, or if your server brought over a freebie like a complimentary dessert, feel free to leave extra. •

Bars: Tip $1 or $2 per drink, or 15 to 20 percent of the bill.

•

Cabs: Those who prefer to use cards know that the suggested options are between 20 and 30 percent, but Post says that’s not necessary — 15 percent is enough. The same applies for livery cabs, unless someone else is footing the bill, in which case the tip is typically included.

Not doin’ it

Interview. Christian Slater is one of the few in “Nymphomaniac” who doesn’t get it on, alas.

No, Christian Slater wasn’t reluctant to do Lars Von Trier’s sex movie “Nymphomaniac.” “My fiancee was concerned,” he says, “because she’s not an actress and not remotely interested or involved in this profession. She’s never dated an actor before, so hearing about the project raised some red flags for her.” Then again, Slater was one of the few in the cast who didn’t have to do the naughty stuff. He plays the father of the lead character, Joe (Charlotte Gainsbourg as an adult and Stacy Martin as a teen/young adult), a sex addict who relates her history of having sex with a stranger (Stellan Skarsgard). Slater keeps his

clothes on, save some hospital gown malfunctions later on. He still had reason to be scared. Von Trier has a reputation as an intimidating monster, one he himself has cultivated and fed to a hungry press. But despite Bjork vowing never to act again after “Dancer in the Dark” and Nicole Kidman running away from the sequel to “Dogville,” most actors have nothing but kind words for him. (Kidman has since said she’d work with him again.) Slater is no different. “I found him to be very gentle and wonderful,” he says. “The scenes that I had to do were very gentle scenes. We shot some of it in his backyard. We used the area of forest he used to play in when he was a kid. I think he felt very sentimental about it.” Slater’s material is atypically earnest and warm for Von Trier, and they add an important texture to a film that’s alternately comic and unpleasant (albeit not

to the extreme of, say, “Antichrist”). “I’m very happy that those scenes are in there. The movie needs that sensitive, softer side. You need to understand that this girl did have some kind of deep, intense, emotional background.” Slater has been getting good reviews for the film. Not that he could always foresee this on the shoot. “Quite honestly, I didn’t always know what we were doing,” he says. “[Von Trier] gave me no clear-cut direction how to communicate any of this stuff. I was making it up as I went along. He allowed improv moments. I think the thing he was most concerned about was slowing down — taking my time and not rushing through it.” The whole experience was a kind of rebirth. “It was very unusual,” he says. “I kind of had to retrain myself.”

these stories about what they shot, the sexuality, the prosthetic that Shia [LaBeouf] had to wear — these crazy, insane stories,” he recalls. “But what was funny to hear was when they shot the first sexual

encounter scenes, and then by the end they couldn’t have cared less; they got desensitized. ‘Oh, let’s just get naked again.’ [Laughs] But me, I would just shoot these sweet scenes with this 12-year-old girl.”

BURT LANCASTER STRIPS DOWN IN ‘THE SWIMMER’

Also out

‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ Martin Scorsese’s latest enraged many with what appeared to be a lack of obviousness over how much it hated its antihero: a remorseless broker (Leonardo DiCaprio) who’s never adequately punished. Here’s your second chance to either “get it or continue not “getting it.

‘Beneath’ Filmmaker (and sometime actor) Larry Fessenden is one of the brainiest of the low-ďŹ horror makers. His latest ďŹ nds high schoolers ďŹ ghting o a deadly ďŹ sh.

He comes out of nowhere, armed only with a pair of swim trunks. It’s an end-of-summer day somewhere in moneyed New England, and Ned (Burt Lancaster) — the mysterious semi-hero of the 1968 art film “The Swimmer — jumps into someone’s fancy pool. Luckily, he knows the owners, who weren’t expecting him but are glad to see him after what seems like a long absence. Ned beams the boyish, bright-eyed, optimistic glee we’ve seen in plenty of previous golden age Lancaster performances. But there’s something off. His friends ask him where he’s been and how he’s doing, but his answers are vague and dodgy. He seems faintly deluded, possibly crazy. He wants to spend the day “swimming his way

home, hopping into every pool on his way back to his manse. As he goes, what seems idyllic gradually turns sour, then sad, then nightmarish. “The Swimmer winds up in a strange, metaphorical place, more dream than reality — it’s like a puzzle with a few missing pieces. Ned is literally stripped down to his essence, or a suit. (Lancaster was a running enthusiast, and at 55 he was in better shape than most of us were in our 20s.) The film concerns one man’s gradual awakening to his irrelevance and failure. As it happens, the film is perched between a dying Hollywood system on the cusp of being redone. Filmed in 1966, the old puritanical Production Code was about to be wiped out. Even its star is

part of this. “The Swimmer knows exactly how to use Lancaster. He’s oldschool artificial, but here his shtick really looks like an act, and a delusional one. It’s a vision of one man’s apocalypse, but also about the less stable landscape upon which movies were about to trod. Back in 1997, when Jane Green released her first novel, “Straight Talking, there was no such thing as chick lit. Green, along with a few other authors at the time, are among the founders of what went on to become a billion-dollar genre. “Helen Fielding wrote ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary,’ and ‘Straight Talking’ came out three or four months later, and there were a couple other books in England that came out around the same time, Green tells us. “A newspaper ran a double-spread article about us and said we had created this new genre, ‘chick lit.’ And that’s really how it started. Green has made a career of writing commercial women’s fiction and is releasing her 15th book, “Tempting Fate, on Tuesday. According to her, writing for women now is very different than it was 18 years ago. “When I first started writing, [chick lit] was aspirational. You had these huge, sexy, glitzy sagas about women who conquered the world. They weren’t very real, but they were huge fun. I think what we did was introduce a genre that really held a mirror to women, and held it with great honesty and humor, she says. “I don’t think there was a genre of books where women were able to read and say, ‘I’ve been there. That’s exactly what my life is like.’ Her new novel is about infidelity. It’s full of so many “what if ?s and “then what?s that it’s impossible not to devour in just a few sittings. As Green has gotten older, so have her characters. The principal character in “Tempting Fate isn’t a 20- or 30-something trying

On the new book

Character study “My days of writing about women in their 20s and 30s are over,â€? Green says. “I’ve always drawn on my own life. ... All of a sudden in my 40s, I noticed a number of women who announced they’d been unhappy for years and, unbearably, it turned out these women were having aairs. I started to really look at female inďŹ delity, and in particular what happens to a woman in her 40s. Why am I seeing so many women being unfaithful? What is going on?â€?

to figure out her relationship status; it’s a woman in her 40s on the brink of a midlife crisis. Green is contractually obligated to release two books a year, so even though she is just now celebrating the release of “Tempting Fate, her 16th book is already done and she’s at work on the 17th. “My next book is called ‘Saving Grace’ and is about an older man married to a younger woman, she reveals. “They take on an assistant who seems perfect in every way, but within a short period of time she starts systematically destroying their lives. TRAVEL TR R

Advice for the anxious traveler Guidebook. You can manage your fears with help from Rita Anya Nara. The disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 can’t be reassuring to wary travelers as they tiptoe aboard airplanes these days. Rita Anya Nara knows how overwhelming the idea of travel can be for someone with anxiety. Even though she’s now been to 38 countries on all seven continents, the author of “The Anxious Traveler” still feels uneasy picking up her passport. “It’s really that uncertainty that creates stress and anxiety, just walking into the unexpected and not knowing what to do if something goes wrong,”

Nara says. And negative feelings don’t always stop once the plane lands. Issues that might seem small to others can be insurmountable for the anxious traveler: not knowing the way around, language barriers, pickpocketers. Combine these with time zones upending normal sleep patterns, and an already anxious person can start to feel worse. In 2007, after a lifelong struggle with anxiety, Nara says a doctor suggested something different. “My doctor suggested I do something I love, which is traveling, with a person I trust.” Traveling with a companion — knowing that someone was looking out for her and could help if something went wrong — was what finally got Nara out into the world. Her favorite destination so far has been Antarctica.

But the California resident didn’t start that far outside of her comfort zone. Just as conquering anxiety is more like winning a battle than the war, Nara recommends taking smaller steps to build up to a grand adventure. “I started out going to countries where they speak English, where crime is low — Norway, Canada,” she says. The key to conquering travel fears is feeling in control: Make a plan, know the lay of the land and take care of yourself. Once at your destination, confront your anxiety. “I’ll stay in my hotel room longer in the morning to get my bearings and understand what I’m going to do,” she says. EVA KIS @MetroPhilly

“People get angry, frustrated [and] in a rut when they feel like there are changes they want to make” inspired by their

Nara recommends finding a way to stay in touch with what you did while away: Taking up a new hobby or cooking an ethnic food you tried can help keep that experience alive and eliminate the post-vacation blues.

Zanna Roberts Rassi. Dress up the bump with tips from a style editor you have to change your style. Menswear has been great for me. I’ve robbed lots from my husband’s closet.

British-born Zanna Roberts Rassi has taken the fashion industry by storm since moving to New York in 2006. Her job titles include Marie Claire senior fashion editor, E! News and “Today” show fashion correspondent, judge on “Under the Gunn,” — and she’s eight months pregnant with twins. Rassi set herself a daily style challenge, one that we’ve been following on Instagram ever since she revealed her first look, a cerise Lisa Perry dress, with the hashtag #stylethebump. We discuss. Maternity wear and fashion — not two things usually found together. So how is your #stylethebump challenge going? For me, most of the maternity wear I’ve found has featured bows and polka dots. You end up looking like a giant baby! My personal style is much more tomboy and minimal. Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean

Zanna Roberts Rassi’s go-to maternity wear trick: layer black leggings under a dress to add a little edge. / GUERRE, MODMODS.COM

Are you wearing anything that you wouldn’t normally go for? I’m definitely wearing more dresses. They’re easier, so I’m embracing it. I got a pair of J Brand black leather leggings, which I layer with everything. They’re my staple. I bought them in a size or two up. They add a tougher edge to any dresses I choose to wear because I’m not really a typical girly girl. For me, dressing a changing body is difficult and I’ve learned a lot through the process. For years I’ve been telling people how to dress but I’ve never had to dress a changing body myself, so it’s been a great experience. To date is to Facebook Re: ‘Infographic: Which online dating site is right for you? Check our flow chart to find out’ (Metro.us) I found your flow chart helpful. But what your readers need now is a flow chart showing how they can participate in online dating but avoid giving away the privacy of their Facebook account. I value my Facebook account highly and am not willing to lose control of it for the sake of being on some dating site. A requirement of many of the sites mentioned in your flow chart is that we are permitted to participate only if we give them our Facebook account.

Hobby Lobby should be consistent RE: “US contraception case, a question of corporate rights” (Metro, March 20) Blessings upon Hobby Lobby for sticking to their guns about birth control. So why is every last stick of merchandise in all their stores stamped “Made in China?” They’re smart people. How do they reconcile their antibirth-control stance with their economic support of the world’s leader in government-enforced birth control? DIANA NAKEEB, VIA EMAIL

See more at www.metro.us Marlon Byrd is the answer to the following trivia question. Who is the first Phillie to bat at Citizens Bank Park? When the Phillies traded their one-time center fielder the following season in 2005, it appeared that Byrd would become a trivial player. However, the classiclate bloomer turned it around and became an All-Star, who is one of the best at hitting left-handed pitching in the game. The Phillies hope the right-fielder, who inked a two-year $16 million deal, is the answer for a club that needs a dependable right-handed bat. What do you bring to the Phillies? I bring stability. You know that I’ll be out there everyday in right. I bring professionalism. I’m going to bust it everyday. I won’t miss a game. How cool is it to come back where you started and you look around and you see Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley, who you came up with and even Bobby Abreu, who was a veteran on that team? It’s incredibly cool. I never stopped being friends with those guys. The best part about coming back to Philadelphia is that I can play with those guys again. Jimmy was here when I came up. I was in the minors with Chase and we came up together. Ryan was right behind us and then there was Cole (Hamels). Chooch (Carlos Ruiz) came up as well. And it is funny that Bobby is back here when I re-

I was thrilled. I was at the playoff games in 2008. We still lived in South Jersey, in Swedesboro and I went to the games, took my seat and waved my rally towel. If you’re a real friend, you root for your friends to do well. I did that and I was very proud of them. They won a World Series and I believe this team can win another one.

MARLON BYRD The Phillies outfielder discusses being reunited with his former crew and watching the Phillies win the World Series in 2008.

BYRD IS THE WORD turned. I learned so much about how to play the game from Bobby Abreu. Why didn’t it work out the first time around with the Phillies? I was still just a kid in

many ways. In 2004, I just met my wife and it was the first time in my career that I struggled. I left the Phillies and I developed as a ballplayer and as a person. Now I’m a family man with two kids an 8-

and a 6-year-old. Did it ever bother you watching your friends, the core of this team go on to win a title? No, they’re my friends. I was happy for those guys.

What will it take for this aging core to make the playoffs? We need things to go right but so does everybody else. Who thought the Boston Red Sox were going to win the World Series last year? You had some aging guys step up like David Ortiz. We have Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins, just for starters, who can do some damage. You must understand Philadelphia fans and their desire for a winner. I do. I get it. I’m fine with that pressure. My wife and I are looking forward to moving back. I love Philadelphia. It’s a great city with amazing fans. Nobody gets into it more than fans in Philly. My wife is thrilled she gets to root for the team she grew up rooting for. It’s all Philly with her. She loves the Eagles, Flyers and Sixers and of course, the Phillies. I love Philadelphia since it’s a big city with a small town feel. You have great restaurants and a great energy.

to the New York Jets on a one-year, $5 million deal, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported the Eagles were close to signing a deal with Mark Sanchez, recently cut by the Jets. Sanchez is still in recovery from a major shoulder surgery in the fall, but NFL insiders say he can pass a physical, and if he does he can find new life as a back up in Philadelphia.

The one-time de facto starter in the Meadowlands has thrown 68 touchdowns and 69 interceptions during his five years with the Jets. The key to the signing however, is if Sanchez is healthy enough to make the Eagles roster. EVAN MACY @evan_macy

Eagles uncertainty

Still no answer about Jackson trade, release Sources have reported now that at least six teams have inquired about the availability of Eagles Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson. The Patriots, 49ers, Seahawks, Jets, Raiders and Panthers have all been named as possible landing spots for Jackson, with the Niners later denying the reports. But if the Eagles can’t find a trade partner, someone willing to take on the $12.75 million cap hit and $10.5 million base salary, would they really just release him? There seems to be incentive for the Eagles and Jackson to work something out. Surely, if he is let go from Philadelphia, Jackson will need to take a pay cut. And clearly, if the Eagles aren’t able to get at least the third-round pick they are hoping for, they would need to use one of their existing draft picks to take a receiver in the

receiver rich draft. Among the possible suitors, the Jets seem to be the front-runners, thanks in part to their signing an old friend of Jackson’s Michael Vick to contend for the starting quarterback job. “We’re looking at a number of players, including DeSean,” Jets owner Woody Johnson told reporters on Sunday at the NFL owners meetings. “He’s a very good player. We’re looking at a number of them. Trades are not our primary operating motif right now; we’re trying to build through the draft.” EVAN MACY

Just a few days after the UConn men needed overtime to take down St. Joseph’s in the NCAA Tournament’s second round, the UConn women look to squash the hopes of Philadelphia hoops fans. The Hawks took care of business as the No. 9 seed against No. 8 Georgia 67-57 Sunday and played some of their best basketball in the victory. “Our kids played with a lot of intensity and emotion,” Hawks coach Cindy Griffin said. “With each shot we made, we got more and more confident.” That confidence will be thoroughly tested Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. on ESPN2, when the 23-9 Hawks take on the 35-0 Huskies, not at
