Bulger held in Oklahoma as prosecutors mull trial Another trial. Prosecutors in Oklahoma haven’t made a decision on bringing Whitey Bulger to trial on murder charges. Convicted mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, 84, has been moved to a federal prison facility in Oklahoma where prosecutors are weighing whether to prosecute him for a murder

there. Bulger had been held at the Plymouth County Correctional Facility during his trial this year, but was recently moved to a facility in Brooklyn, N.Y. The federal Bureau of Prisons now lists Bulger’s location as Oklahoma City. FTC Oklahoma City is an administrative security federal transfer center that houses more than 1,300 male and female inmates. A jury found earlier this year that Bulger, as leader of the Winter Hill Gang, did conspire to kill and ordered the murder of Oklahoma businessman Roger Wheeler over an

attempt to take over Wheeler’s jai alai business. It was not immediately clear why Bulger was transferred to FTC Oklahoma City, but prosecutors are determining whether to pursue a trial against Bulger for Wheeler’s murder. Bulger potentially faces the death penalty in Oklahoma. Doug Drummond, first as-

sistant district attorney for the Tulsa County, said Tuesday that taking Bulger to trial hasn’t been decided. “No decision as of yet,” Drummond said. “We did not know he was in Oklahoma until the media called.” Tulsa County District Attorney Tim Harris told the Tulsa World last month that Bulger’s life sentence would be considered as prosecutors continue to determine their next steps. Before Bulger was sentenced to life in prison earlier this year, Wheeler’s son spoke during the sentencing hearing and had some harsh words for Bulger

and the federal government. “Shame on you, Mr. Bugler. For all of your notoriety, you were a punk,” said David Wheeler. “And you don’t even matter anymore. You have turned from government-sponsored assassin to a bag of jailhouse rags waiting to be stored on cold steel. Enjoy your retirement.” On Friday, the judge overseeing Bulger’s trial awarded Wheeler’s family more than $6 million in restitution.

Tsarnaev lawyers want more time for venue motion Attorneys for the accused Boston Marathon bomber have asked a judge to extend past Feb. 28, the deadline to try to move his trial outside of Boston, saying they cannot make such a request before they know if he is

facing the death penalty. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s attorneys argued in papers filed in federal court that their decision on whether to seek a change of venue will depend in part on whether the Justice Department seeks to have Tsarnaev, 20, executed if he is convicted of charges arising from the April 15 bombing. “The attorney general is

expected to announce his penalty decision by the end of January 2014,” defense attorneys argued. “The media attention to that decision risks skewing public perception. As a result, data collected now, in advance of the attorney general’s decision, will likely be of little use in the wake of the inevitable media saturation reporting of that decision.” REUTERS Beware if you dare move the chair.

‘Tis the season for battling your neighbors over parking spaces that you painstakingly dug out in the frigid aftermath of a snowstorm. Parking space-savers recently made their winter debut, popping up not only in Southie, where the art of place saving seems to be a neighborhood pastime, but throughout the rest of the city and Greater Boston area. Although Somerville, Medford and Cambridge do not allow the space-savers, they were already out in full force this week, littering the streets with household items like chairs, vacuum cleaners and boxes. Some even come with friendly — and in some cases not-so-friendly — notes asking neighbors to respect the unspoken space-saver code (if you shovel it, you save it). But residents in those communities shouldn’t ex-

pect the method to work. “Public Works’ first priority is returning the streets and public sidewalks back to safe, passable conditions as quickly as possible,” said Cambridge Public Information Officer Ini Tomeu. “Once primary snow removal is complete, crews will begin removing space-savers as they come upon them.” A snow emergency was not issued for Tuesday’s snowfall, meaning that Boston residents were in the wrong if they placed items in their special spots. But that doesn’t mean they’ll face repercussions. “There are no rules. This is not a program, it’s not an ordinance, not something that officially exists. The mayor supports space-savers during declared snow emergencies. Other than that, we’re not involved in it,” said John Guilfoil, a spokesman for Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. As for the occasional act of retaliation between scorned neighbors, Guilfoil said: “We’d strongly caution residents against vandalizing vehicles or breaking the law.”

MORGAN ROUSSEAU

morgan.rousseau@metro.us

Snag a space in Boston The city allows people to use space-savers for up to 48 hours after a snow emergency has been lifted. After that, the items are collected by The Department of Public Works. The city does not ticket residents who leave space-savers out beyond the

grace period. •

“We more so will write a ticket for unshoveled sidewalks or for people placing snow in the street,” said Lisa Timberlake of Boston Inspectional Services.

Also, following DCR’s normal priorities, snow removal along the path will be done within 24 hours of the completion of each storm this winter season.

New Balance will provide the funding and the DCR will perform the snow removal along the 17-mile Charles River path stretching from the Museum of Science to the Galen Street Bridge in Watertown. A two-year U.S. budget deal on Tuesday cleared a Senate procedural vote that all but assured its passage by a simple majority later this week in the Democratcontrolled chamber. Retail chain Target is refusing to carry the album, according to Billboard. “At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections,” a spokeswoman for the chain says. “While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach, and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce’s new selftitled album ‘Beyonce.’”

Kind of changes the way you see the loud, erratic star, doesn’t it? OK, now what if I told you that pretty much the entire film is a rip-off of an indie graphic novel? Aaaaand the world we know snaps back into place. LaBeouf’s short film, “HowardCantour.com,” about a film critic, premiered at last year’s Sundance Film Festival to critical praise. Yesterday it was released online, where fans immediately noticed its similarities to “Justin M. Damiano,” a comic by indie artist Daniel Clowes. And not just small, coincidental similarities, either. “Every word from the four-page comic created by Clowes in 2006 is used in the script for LaBeouf’s directional debut,” Jacquelene Cohen, director of publicity and

To make an old Kanye joke, Imma let the sta ďŹ nish, but “Thronesâ€? had the best season ever. (Full disclosure: I‘ve never seen “Homeland.â€? I know. *slaps own wrist.* I can’t start a show once it’s multiple seasons deep. It’s the same reason I didn’t watch “Breaking Bad.â€? *slaps wrist twice*) What other show has the balls to kill o so many main characters? It reigns supreme. See what I did there?

‘House of Cards’

2

“House of Cards is utterly captivating, and this comes from a person that, full disclosure, doesn’t even vote. *applies ice to swollen wrist* This show has it all: sex, violence, scandal and Kevin Spacey.

‘Girls’

4

‘Project Runway’

Lena Dunham is genius, and likeable, despite airing her aws (emotional and physical) for the whole world to see. Sure, season two was depressing, but as a 20-something girl myself (OK FINE, 29) I can totally relate to this show.

3

‘Nathan for You’

Housewives, teen moms, people who have sex with inanimate objects — I watch all reality TV. But “Project Runwayâ€? is quality. The contestants are talented, the challenges are exciting and there’s enough catďŹ ghting to sate my appetite for lower-brow reality crap.

5

Nathan Fielder is one of the funniest weirdos on TV. In his docu-reality/comedy series he uses his “business sense to help failing companies. (He is not helpful.)

Farm & Fable is a fairy tale come true

+ PLUS

This new South End shop serves as a treasure trove of vintage homegoods and an event space for aspiring home chefs. / BRIAN SAMUELS PHOTOGRAPHY

Farm & Fable is located at 251 Shawmut Ave., Boston. / ASSEMBLY DESIGN STUDIO

Homegoods. Need of last minute holiday presents? Gift the foodie or home decorator in your life from this new shop. Much to the delight of modernday culinary time-travelers, Farm & Fable, a small storefront kitty-corner to Formaggio Kitchen and right across the way from Coppa in the South End, has finally opened its doors. Why time-travelers? A glance at the antique eggbeaters, apple-corers and sausage-stuffers, and shelves neatly lined with vintage cookbooks, should give you a clue. Owner Abigail Ruettgers, who reads those cookbooks like novels, had hopes that her shop would evolve into a “clubhouse for food dorks” when we first checked in on the space in early September. Then, the test kitchen and entertaining space downstairs — awash with chrome appliances and centered around a 10-seat communal table — was just a blueprint. There were no aprons soaking up the winter sun in

the windows, no Mad Men-era glassware adorning the display tables. The little store is armed to the teeth with culinary curios with which to decorate your home, most of it stemming from Ruettgers’ personal collection. A former litigator who officially gave in to her lifelong passion for relics of old-school kitchens, she has a uniquely intimate bond with each and every item in stock. Consider it a stamp of well-worn approval. “It’s a little surreal sometimes. I did all of this myself, so there was a solid chance that it was not going to come out quite right,” she admits. “It’s funny though, I set it all up, and then I felt like it had always been here.” The books, the stores’ focal point, have been flying off the shelves, but Ruettgers says that interest in classes

has been the most surprising. “I was anticipating that people would be interested, and that it would be something that we would get going in the New Year, but it’s the first question out of everyone’s mouth,” she says. “I think there’s just an incredible interest in that in Boston right now. People don’t want to get together with their friends and just go to dinner, they want to do something different.” Plus, she adds, fellow enthusiasts have begun to come out of the woodwork, stopping by to discuss bygone eras of cookery on a daily basis. Looks like she might get her clubhouse for dorks after all.

Sullinger leading the way for C’s anti-tank campaign Celtics notes

Sullinger had a strong message a few days back to anyone thinking the Celtics would tank this season. “Kiss our butts,” the secondyear forward out of Ohio State put it. No thanks — but we get the point. Sullinger and the now 12-14 Celtics have been one of the pleasant surprises of the NBA season in an East-

While just about everyone wrote off Boston before the season began, the players and coaches inside the locker room knew they had more fight in them than anybody was ready to give them credit for. Sullinger, coming off of back surgery, is becoming a go-to guy on the C’s. On the season, he’s averaging 14.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.7 assists — all significant improvements from his stats last year in a reduced role. He also leads the Celtics in plus/minus at plus-84, which means the Celtics have outscored opponents by 84 points when he’s on the court. Monday night, he scored 15 of his 24 points and grabbed six of his 11 boards in the fourth quarter of a four-
