Here’s looking at Hugh Hugh Masekela, one of South Africa’s most famous musicians, will grace the stage at Epcor Centre’s Jack Singer Concert Hall on Tuesday, April 23, as part of the BD&P World Music Series. Masekela, a jazz trumpeter, exiled himself for more than 30 years in protest of apartheid. He will take the audience on a journey through jazz, funk and soul. Read up on his mentors Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker before the pre-show at 6 p.m., and the concert at 7 p.m.
An appetizing affair On Friday, some of Calgary’s great restaurants compete to dazzle your taste buds. Spots such as Charcut and Market will be paired with artists, athletes, entertainers, entrepreneurs and media personalities who will use their most devious schemes to sell you appetizers! There will also be music and a silent auction. The evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the Southern Jubilee Auditorium Lobby, and tickets are $75. Check out atp.vonality.com for more information.
Strictly for the ladies The one-stop experience for fashion, style, health and wellness is happening April 20 and 21 at the BMO Centre, Stampede Park. Not only will Bachelor Brad Smith be there with his fiancée Bianka Kamber, but Y&R’s Eric Braeden (a.k.a. Victor Newman) will also be in attendance. There will be styling segments, fashion shows and much more, so keep your eyes peeled and score an early Mother’s Day present from one of the exhibitors. General admission is $14, or $20 for the weekend.

Crowbar’s Tequila Cocktails Crowbar’s Tequila Cocktail Class takes place April 25, and is hosted by Wade Sirois, whose aim is to turn the tables on any bad tequila experience you may have had. The class takes place at Forage in Marda Loop, and there will be tacos to go with the cocktails. You’ll walk away with a few new drink recipes, a lot more knowledge about tequila and a satisfied tummy. Ellinor Stenroos at DaDe
Lunchbox Theatre presents part of the This Is My City Festival on April 20, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The afternoon is set to be both fun and informative, and features stories presented as a “pecha kucha exchange” — a concise, fast-paced presentation methodology in which speakers each have six minutes to tell a story. On April 19, Ellinor Stenroos opens her show at DaDe Art and Design Lab. Specializing in jewelry design, the artist explores topics such as how we express ourselves with the clothing and accessories we wear. The show is open until June 2, and Stenroos will be in attendance at DaDe this Friday. The show starts at 7 p.m.
