Jake and Anja Oosterwijk had not been heard from since leaving their home near Fort Macleod on Saturday for a quick trip into B.C. The couple’s seven children, who are between the ages of six and 22, became concerned, saying that the disappearance was out of character for their parents. “They’d gotten stuck and walked to a cabin nearby,” explained the RCMP. Police dispatched a helicopter to get them. Jake had an injured knee, but the couple were otherwise OK.

A husband and wife stuck in the woods outside Fernie, B.C. for three days say they were lucky to find a well-stocked cabin while they waited to be found. Jake and Anja Oosterwijk were rescued Tuesday and have been reunited with their seven children in Fort Macleod. Jake Oosterwijk says they took wrong turns on some back roads and got stuck in the snow. He calls the cabin they found a “beautiful prison” with a wood stove, food and water.
