Journey Through Middle School
Main Points
• Importance of Every Day in Forms 4&5
• Attendance
• School and External Examinations
Why is everday important?
• Teachers following very long and detailed specifications for each subject
• Questions will be set on all parts of the specification on the final GCSE papers
• Theory may only be covered once.
Why are GCSEs so important?
Building block for everything Post 16
Future Pathways
• A levels/University/Apprenticeship/ Employment
• Medicine/Dentistry/Veterinary…AAA at A Level AND at least 6A* at GCSE
• High demand courses such as engineering/PPE/Law at certain universities ask for at least 5A* at GCSE
• Apprenticeships or Employment require a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A* to C with a pass in English
Language and Mathematics
How can a pupil achieve their full potential at GCSE level?
Why Is Attendance at School so Important?
Attendance
Attendance and Exam Results
Another way of saying this is:-
• • 90% attendance means that a child is missing half a day of lessons every week.
• • In a single year this would mean a child has missed four whole weeks.
• • Over five years it means that a child has missed half a school year ie 20 weeks,
• or one and a half terms
• or the equivalent of studying one full time GCSE for a year
