jane young house THINGS TO DO

JANE YOUNG HOUSE / WEBSTER CITY WOMEN’S CLUB The Jane Young House was built in 1873 for Kendall and Jane Young. Kendall had an adventurous life as a soldier, seaman, fisherman, and merchant who made a fortune in the gold fields of California during the Gold Rush. He came to Webster City in 1859 to run “The Old Reliable Store,” establish and serve as president of the First National Bank and acquire farmland. He married Jane Underdown in 1858. He left his estate to the city to build a proper library. The restored historical home has been used by the Webster City Women’s Club for its meetings and activities since 1923. The large main floor meeting room features seating for up to 49, a perfect venue for meetings, showers, receptions, reunions and similar activities. Call 515-835-7995 to book the facility, which is handicap accessible.

Members are currently working to restore the second floor to create an exhibition space for the club’s collection of vintage clothing and hats. The exhibit should be available to tour before the end of 2018. The Women’s Club meets the second Monday of the month, September – May. Its annual Rose Tea is held in June. Women interested in learning more about the Club are encouraged to attend a meeting or contact the club president at 515-832-4248.

WEBSTER THEATER

610 2ND STREET, WEBSTER CITY, IA 50595 515.832.6684 (515.832.MOVI)

TICKETS STANDARD: ADULT $4, CHILD $3 3D: ADULT $6, CHILD $5

You are invited to enjoy a world-class experience at the newly-restored art deco Webster Theater, featuring family-friendly prices and state-of-the-art digital projection and sound on north Iowa’s biggest screen. The theater was built in 1906 and in the 1920’s, the Orpheum was remodeled and renamed the Granada Theater. Then in 1939, it became The Webster and the marquee was added.

Around 1988, Fridley Theatres purchased the Webster Theater and it was operated until the mid2000’s, when it was taken over by the BigTime Cinema chain. The last showing was on March 7, 2013 and the theater closed its doors on March 8, 2013.

The reopening of the theater is a result of a group of volunteers coming together to save a piece of Webster City’s history. Help Entertain & Restore Organization, Inc. (HERO) is a non-profit corporation formed to renovate and re-open a cornerstone of Webster City’s downtown life, The Webster Theater. See ad on page 3.

doodle bug club of america THINGS TO DO

The Doodle Bug Club of America welcomes you to Webster City, Iowa, the Doodle Bug Capital of the World and the birthplace of the famous motor scooter which has turned many heads in its 70-plus years of existence. During World War II automobiles were not being produced in the numbers that were experienced in pre-war times. To help provide a cheap mode of transportation, a local

manufacturing company decided to design and build a small inexpensive motor scooter that would originally sell for the staggering sum of $69.95. A total of 40,000 were built between 1946 and 1948. It is estimated that possibly no more than a few hundred of these scooters still exist.

EXTENDED CARE … WHAT’S YOUR STRATEGY? You may think you’ll never need extended care. But what would happen if you took the chance and weren’t prepared for the consequences? Extended care may affect your family members: • Emotionally, as they juggle time between you and their families. • Physically, especially if they are your caregivers. • Financially, by potentially depleting your savings and their inheritance. A strategy for your care could be the best gift you’ve ever given your family. Contact us today to learn more. Casting our Story... The story of Seneca Foundry reaches back more than 100-years. Early products manufactured include several styles of feeding troughs for hogs, cattle, and poultry; drinking pans for stock fountains; and even an early version of hospital bed frames. Today we bring iron to life for many people and a vast variety of industries. Some products you may recognize today are cast iron components on weight lifting benches in top collegiate weight rooms across the U.S., brackets for basketball hoops, and cast iron components used to manufacture fifth wheel hitches and slideouts on RV’s.

Although much has changed over 100-years, we hold true to our core values of putting the customer first with dedicated, committed service; doing the right thing; team building; continuous improvement; and treating everyone with fairness and respect.

We are a proud member and supporter of our community, and always looking for new team members! As a recipient of the Des Moines Register’s Top Work Places, we offer competitive wages and a generous benefit package. Call 515-832-1722 or check out our website to learn more.
