The Parks Foundation was formed in 2002 to strengthen and enrich the park system in Fort Dodge by providing supplementary funds. These funds are used for trees, shrubs, flowers, signage and other park enhancements, plus monies for long-range planning and landscape design. Members of the Foundation include: Jeff Becker (President), Dan Garst, Mary Jo Kirby, Bonnie Pecka, Carolyn Brandt, Tim Holmstrom, Matt Maggio, and Tom Sullivan. The Parks & Recreation Commission govern rules and regulations for use of parks, as well as recreation facilities and programs. The group serves to advise council on the needed facilities to provide open space, such as parks, playgrounds, and community facilities for other forms of recreation. The group also updates and revises plans as required, sets fees, and makes recommendations to council for changes in the Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department. Members of Commission include: Steve Daniel (President), Mary Jo Kirby, Mark Campbell, Tonia Burrell, Molly Schaeffer, Nik Moser, and Michael Payne.

The parks are open from sunrise to 10:30pm every day. We need your help to keep our parks safe and enjoyable for all, so please keep the following in mind when using the parks:

FORESTRY DEPARTMENT Proud Recipient of the Tree City Award for the past 35 years! Phone: 573-5791 Parks & Recreation Department is proud to have a full-service Forestry Department under its auspices. City Forestry provides trimming and/or pruning of city right of way (parking trees); removing dead, dying, hazardous, or diseased trees from the parking or other city property. They also grind out and remove stumps from the parking and city property and refill holes with black dirt and compost.

EMERALD ASH BORER

Forestry provides other miscellaneous care of cracked and/or injured trees and they provide information in regard to insect/disease problems infecting trees.

Your Ash tree on the city parking could be scheduled for removal. In early response to the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer, the City of Fort Dodge will be removing Ash trees. Ash trees with structural problems will be top priority.

Please remember, if your property abuts an alleyway, it is your civic duty to help create unimpeded travel along the roadway. Unpruned brush can create vision and safety concerns, cause property damage to vehicles that travel through, and could hinder the ability of the Fort Dodge Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments to effectively carry out their jobs. Please help us make the alleyways safe!

TREE MEMORIAL PROGRAM One of our most successful parks programs is the Tree Memorial, which is an outstanding and thoughtful way to remember a loved one. Call the Parks & Recreation Department to receive more information or visit www. fortdodgeiowa.org/parks to print off a copy of the Tree Memorial Order Form.

Top 5 Reasons to be a Volunteer Coach: 1. Programs offered at an affordable cost with the help of volunteer coaches.

2. Be a mentor to children: As a coach, the children will look up to you. You will teach the children not only skills for the specific sport, but also important life skills including sportsmanship, honesty, responsibility, respect & more. 3. Get involved in the community & make a difference. Volunteering is one of life’s greatest secrets. Being a coach will allow your child & other children the chance to play, but will also offer a fulfilling commitment in your life. 4. Spend time with your child.
