Disc Golf Course Improvement Tournament Activity # 567 This year’s tournament will be a 2-person Ryder Cup Tournament. What is that you ask? A team of two people play 27 holes of disc golf. The first nine is alternate shot format, where teammates alternate the shot (i.e. - if player A finishes the putt, player B, tees off on the next hole). The second nine is best shot, where player A & B each toss, then choose what toss is best, both then tossing from that spot. The final nine holes will be played in better toss format. This is where each player plays their disc the entire way and the better of the teammates’ score would be written down. Teams will compete for the best 27-hole total. The tournament was a major success in 2012 and helped springboard the installation of 9 new baskets throughout the coarse. Your support is the reason for this historic course’s facelift. Please continue to support the course and its leagues and tournaments.

Adaptive Sports Camp Activity # 692 FD Parks and Recreation is hosting NEW Adaptive Sports Camps for youth aged 5 - 13 years old. Each registered participant must have a responsible “buddy” to help throughout the entire camp session. A.S.C. will provide an opportunity, through our community based programs for youth with disabilities to continue to develop their physical, emotional and social skills during leisure recreational programs. Since this is a completely new adventure for FD Parks and Recreation, we reserve the right to modify the schedule and activities to better fit the program and its participants at any time. Please if you have questions about the camp itself, or to inquire if this camp would be suited for someone you know, contact Ryan at 5767237 or email, rymaehl@fortdodgeiowa.org. WHAT IS A SPLASH PAD? A splash pad is an area for water play that has no standing water. The water in the system is recycled and treated water that is treated to at least the same level of quality as swimming pool water standards. To help us in keeping our public aquatic facilities clean, we ask that swim diapers be worn at all times, those with diarrhea refrain from playing in the water, and we all do our part to discourage the drinking of pool/splash pad water.

Friendly reminders before visiting the Oleson Park Splash Pad: * SWIM SUITS REQUIRED FOR PLAY IN SPLASH PAD * Street shoes not allowed * Swim diapers required * Pets outside of fenced area * Plastic containers only * This is a smoke free environment * Walk please! Forestry Department

New Open Shelters Available for Rent

Proud Recipient of the Tree City Award for the past 30 years! Phone: 573-5791

Fort Dodge Parks & Recreation is proud to have a full-service Forestry Department under its auspices. City Forestry provides trimming and/or pruning of city right of way (parking trees), removing dead, dying, hazardous or diseased trees from the parking or other city property. They also grind out and remove stumps from the parking and city property and refill holes with black dirt and compost. Forestry provides other miscellaneous care of cracked and/or injured trees and they provide information in regard to insect/disease problems infecting trees.

Tree Memorial Program One of our most successful parks programs, a tree memorial is an outstanding and thoughtful way to remember a loved one. Call FD Parks & Recreation to receive more information or visit fortdodgeiowa.org to print off a copy of the Tree Memorial Order Form.

DATES FOR TREE PLANTINGS Spring & Fall Please remember, if your property abuts an alleyway, it is your civic duty to help create unimpeded travel along the roadway. Unpruned brush can create vision and safety concerns, cause property damage to vehicles that travel through, and could hinder the ability of the FDPD, Fire and Public Works Departments to effectively carry out their jobs. Please help us make the alleyways safe!
