While touring the neighborhoods of Owensboro, you’d be hard pressed to find a friendlier, more attractive area than the Heartland subdivision. Bright, cheerful homes and well-manicured lots line the winding streets of each section, and neighbors often say hello while walking their dogs, playing at the park or traversing the Greenbelt. That’s what drew Chris and Tonya Brown to this area of town. About 10 years ago, they were planning to build a home on land their family owned, but they needed a floor plan that fit their needs. Upon discovering an attractive floor plan by Jagoe Homes, the Browns visited a plot the home builder had available in The Parks neighborhood. They became enamored with the area, and by 2010, they called the brick abode at 2339

Overlook Park home. “It’s a family neighborhood,” Chris says of Heartland. “We love to see the kids out playing. (Heartland Park) is so close, and we’re a couple hundred yards from the Greenbelt. The neighbors like to come out and talk ... that’s one of the reasons we have a low fence, to interact with the neighbors.” Among homes in Heartland, 2339 Overlook Park is a gem. The Browns wanted a floor plan that offered functionality on the main level and plenty of space on the second. Jagoe Homes’ 2,856-square-foot blueprint perfectly met the family’s needs while allowing them to make the house truly their own. omes are getting bigger, but it seems like people are still lamenting a lack of storage space. National Public Radio says the average American home has nearly tripled in size during the last 50 years. Despite that, 10 percent of Americans still need to rent off-site storage, according to a report in the New York Times Magazine. Self-storage facilities are one of the fastest-growing commercial real estate segments, and the Self Storage Association says there are more than 50,000 storage facilities in the U.S. alone. The commercial real estate company CBRE, Ltd., says there are roughly 3,000 self-storage facilities across Canada, and 65 to 85 percent of self-storage tenants are residential users. Improving storage at home can be a cost-effective alternative to renting storage space. With these easy tips, homeowners can maximize space immediately.

UTILIZE TRACK STORAGE SYSTEMS

Closets may be plentiful, but if not efficiently utilized, space may still seem lacking. Track

travel suitcases, can be stored in high spaces. Shelving on walls can go as high as necessar y and be put to use in awkward wall areas, such as in corners or under eaves.
