san francisco, ca | urban porosity the GOOD FOOD complex is comprised of a conjunction of varied programs centered around food awareness and education. three primary programmatic categories [education, commerce, production] allow for varying degrees of public involvement and control. as a public project, GOOD FOOD stands to become a catalyst for urban revitalization in the SOMA district of san francisco. as such, a fundamental project goal was to create an inviting building which would act as a destination for a variety of user groups in the area.

a1 | good food center: soma [ spring 2013 ]

san francisco, ca | urban porosity using the concept of urban porosity, defined as a permeable architecture that acts as a void in the urban environment, the GOOD FOOD complex facilitiates the growth of the slow food culture by breaking down barriers between public and private. literal porosity [ natural ventilation, daylighting ], spatial porosity [ access, barriers ], and visual porosity [ material transparency, opacity ] allow for the productive merging of the three primary programs within the building and surrounding urban site context.
