The Merikarvia River begins from the north end of Isoj채rvi and flows into the Bothnian Sea from Merikarvia. The length of the river is approximately 27 kilometres, the drop height to the sea level is 35 meters and the average flow rate is ca 15 m3/sec.
There are about 6 kilometres of rapids and streams in the area. Migrating fish have a clear route upstream from the sea for the entire length of the river.
