Swings and Roundabouts Fish & The Fruits Paintings (To the people of Plymouth City Market) 2011

Prior to his residency at Project Space 11 Christopher Green invited residents of Plymouth, through the distribution of forms and emails, to describe a single colour that they considered to be either nice or horrid. In the weeks leading up to the residency a post-box made by the artist was installed outside the space for the deposition of completed forms. During the course of his residency the artist mixed his own interpretations of the described colours and translated them into Project Space 11, painting directly onto the walls, establishing a series of visual dialogues corresponding to the architecture of the space. The work is in part an exercise in translation and the exchange and changeability of perception and abstracted ideas. Once all of the described colours have been applied they assume absolute anonymity, existing as autonomous citations coming together in a moment of realisation before slipping back into the mind of the viewer never to be seen again.
