New Zealand is a trekkers paradise. With an incredible range of breathtaking scenery and terrain, there is something available for everyone's tastes. From short one day hikes to longer multi day hikes, your options are almost unlimited. New Zealand is a small country that is incredibly diverse, and you can hike through amazing coastal scenery, lush rainforest, ice capped alpine mountains and volcanoes. Here are my top 5 hikes in New Zealand. 1. Milford Track Located in Fiordland National Park, the Milford Track is well known as one of the greatest treks in the world. The 4 day 54km track starts at the top of Lake Te Anau and makes it's way through the lush beech forests of the Clinton valley. Following in the footsteps of the pioneers who first walked this path in 1888, the track crosses an 1154m alpine pass before following the Arthur Valley down to the picturesque Milford Sound. 2. Routeburn Track The Routeburn track is a spectacular alpine trek that links Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National Parks. The 2-4 day 32km track goes through beautiful beech forests and crosses an alpine pass with the snow capped peaks of the Southern Alps surrounding it. 3. Abel Tasman Coastal Track Located on the beautiful northern coastline of New Zealand's South Island, the Abel Tasman Coastal Track follows the coast of Abel Tasman National Park. This 3-5 day 54km trek can be walked in either direction, and provides some amazing coastal scenery. 4. Tongariro Crossing The Tongariro Crossing is known as one of the best one day hikes in the world. This incredible trek climbs up and over the volcanic terrain of Mount Tongariro, passing several craters, springs and forests on the lower slopes. This alpine trek provides some incredible rugged scenery and great views of the craters and volcanic lakes of Mount Tongariro and the other volcanoes surrounding it. 5. Queen Charlotte Track Located in the spectacular Marlborough Sounds in the north of New Zealand's South Island, this 71km 6 day trek follows along the spectacular coastlines of the Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru

Sounds. Starting at the location of one of the landings of Captain James Cook in 1770, this beautiful trek can be walked in full or as shorter day hikes. These are only a few of the many amazing hikes that New Zealand has to offer. It is an excellent way to experience this beautiful country.
