Mission: the sembako bag distribution
English Language Arts
The Sekolah Mentari Grand Surya students are never too busy to lend a helping hand, and the Grade 6 Whisnu displayed this trait by sharing and caring for the less fortunate through the distribution of sembako bags in the light of the holiday spirit. The sembako bags contained rice, noodles, cooking oil as well as a variety of other items necessary for the preparation and enjoyment of the Lebaran celebration. Those that received the sembako bags were truly grateful as smiles, handshakes, and words of appreciation were extended to the students for their utmost generosity. English Language Arts
“In order to fully master the language, the students have to constantly practice speaking in English.”
The students revisited the old world of nouns, pronouns, root words, prefixes, suffixes, the spelling rules when adding suffixes, and composition writing while engaging in newer and more advance grammar rules and writing techniques on the said topics. They also had pre-reading activities on the novel “The Giver”. The Grade 6 students now have pre-spelling and post spelling tests of words found and taken from their classes in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Geo-history, from the given novel, and chosen words in which the students may have misspelled. This is done in order for the students to better gauge and expand their vocabulary.
Upcoming lessons in English Language Arts include the assigned chapters of the novel “The Giver”, more spelling words, more on the right usage of pronouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs, as well as lessons in composition writing using the proper grammar skills. It is deeply requested that you encourage your child to continue to speak in the English language even at home. The teachers are very much willing to help the students improve on their English proficiency; however, in order to fully master the language, they have to constantly practice speaking in English.
Mathematics The Grade 6 students explored the world of algebra. They were able to enjoy mathematics activities such as the “Who wants to be a Billionaire?” and the Magic Square about algebraic expressions games. Geo-history The students take a look at their very own country – the Republic of Indonesia. They are taught to better understand the country’s flag, the national emblem, the principles embedded in each symbol of the emblem, the national anthem, and the various land and water forms found in the different islands of the country.
