OPENING ART RECEPTION The works of Spencer Brewer and Larry Fuente

THURSDAY, MAY 31, 5:00pm - 7:00pm | FESTIVAL HEADQUARTERS

Join us on Thursday, May 31st, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm for a special art reception celebrating the creative spirit in all media and kicking off the beginning of this year’s festival! We are honoring two of our infamous, eclectic local artists, Spencer Brewer and Larry Fuente, as well as the photographic work of our Festival photographers. Meet one another and the artists, enjoy an aperitif, and meander the rooms of our historic Odd Fellows Hall while familiarizing yourself with our Festival’s Headquarters. Be inspired by the sheer creativity of this year’s featured artists! Spencer Brewer is a renowned musician who also creates sculptural pieces from ‘found art’ materials, or repurposed vintage objects, many of which focus on musical instruments re-designed into elegant assemblies. “From the whimsical and humorous, to the extraordinary and dark, each piece is one of a kind.” Expect to be delighted, surprised and likely awed by his unique creations. Larry Fuente has been residing and creating world-renowned art in Mendocino since the 1960s. His incredible creations have graced the cover of National Geographic, been displayed in galleries across the country, and used to highlight floats of the local 4th of July parade. Moving to the Bay Area in the late 60s, Fuente transitioned from painting to three dimensional works. Larry then relocated to Mendocino, where he continues to work in the medium of assemblage. One of his art works, “Game Fish”—a sail fish encrusted with game pieces—is one of the few artworks on permanent display at the Renwick Gallery, home to the collection of American contemporary craft and decorative art in Washington D.C.
