UPDATED NCAA RPI RELEASED With a Memphis goal of qualifying for the post season out there, the Tigers have to do two things. 1) stay at .500 or over .500 2) keep their RPI up. The latest NCAA RPI was posted Monday: No. 4 Connecticut No. 6 Louisville No. 47 Rutgers No. 60 Temple No. 71 SMU No. 84 USF No. 118 Cincinnati No. 124 Memphis No. 174 UCF No. 266 Houston REUNITING WITH ANOTHER OLD FOE Memphis is reuniting with another former conference foe on Wednesday night. The Tigers and the Bulls both used to be members of Conference USA before USF left to join the BIG EAST. Memphis leads the overall series with the Bulls, 12-3, but the two teams have not met since Jan. 23, 2005, a game won by USF in Tampa, 72-58. The Tigers are 7-0 at home all-time against USF. ROWSER FINDING HER STROKE Redshirt freshman guard Mooriah Rowser has found her stroke as of late. She was 5-for-10 from the field in the loss at Rutgers, finishing with 14 points, her second double-digit night in three games. Over the last four games, she has averaged 10.5 ppg, increasing her scoring average to 8.8 points on the season. She knocked down a pair of three-point field goals at Rutgers, the first time in her career she has hit more than one triple in a game and in the last three games, she is shooting 16-for-32 from the field (50.0 percent). DOUBLE DIGIT BOARDS FOR FUQUA-BEY Sophomore forward Asia Fuqua-Bey finished the game at Rutgers with 10 rebounds, her fourth double-digit rebounding effort of the season and her second against Rutgers. POWELL PROVIDING PUNCH FROM THE BENCH Sophomore post Courtney Powell has seen her minutes increase in the last few games. After playing a career-high 22 minutes in the game at Louisville (she eventually was one of three post players to foul out of the game), she played 17 minutes on the road at Rutgers, finishing with five rebounds. In the last three games, she is averaging 4.7 rebounds a night. WILDER-COCHRAN BACK IN THE LINEUP Freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran missed her first game of the season last Wednesday against UCF. In the previous game at Louisville, she chased a rebound out of bounds and ended up sliding headfirst into the sideline boards of the press table. She returned to the starting lineup on Saturday at Rutgers. After starting conference play with more assists than turnovers in three of the first five games, she has now had more turnovers than assists in four straight games, dropping her assist-to-turnover ratio under 1.0 in conference play for the first time this season (36 assists vs. 38 turnovers). On the year, the freshman has 91 assists against 78 turnovers. DOWN TO SINGLE DIGITS Memphis has eight regular season games remaining counting the USF game. Four of those eight games will be road games and four of those games will be against opponents that Memphis had not seen yet this season -- USF and Cincinnati. HEARN LOGGING THE MILES Sophomore guard Ariel Hearn leads the American Athletic Conference in minutes played with 37.2 min-

utes a night on the floor. She has played 38 or more minutes in five of the last six games (one of which went to overtime), including a full-game, 40-minute effort in the Tigers’ last home game. After shooting 69.2 percent from the field in the Memphis win at UCF (1/11/14), Hearn has found scoring a bit more difficult as of late. She has shot over 30 percent from the field in three of the last six games, with a best performance of 34.8 percent in the win over Rutgers back on Jan. 14th. HEARN HELD TO SINGLE DIGITS AT RUTGERS It doesn’t happen often to the sophomore guard from nearby Arlington, but Ariel Hearn was held to single digits for just the fourth time this season in the loss at Rutgers. She has scored double-digit points 18 times this year (and 42 for her Tiger career). The four opponents to hold Hearn to single digits? East Tennessee State in the season-opener (9), Syracuse in the Paradise Jam tournament (9), at UConn (7) and at Rutgers (8). The East Tennessee State game is the only time she has been held to single digits in a home game. Hearn has posted 20+ point games eight times already this season and now has 12 20+ point games for her career. TIGERS WITHOUT TWO STARTERS IN UCF WIN The Tigers had to shake up their starting lineup in last Wednesday afternoon’s game against UCF. After freshman guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran slid into the sideline boards at Louisville trying to track down an offensive rebound, she missed the UCF game. Senior center Pa’Sonna Hope also missed the UCF game. Both returned for the road game at Rutgers. HEARN TAKES ON MORE DUTIES VS UCF Sophomore guard Ariel Hearn had to take on additional duties with freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran missing the UCF game. Hearn played all 40 minutes of the UCF game at the point and finished with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists against just one turnover and two steals. Hearn also did a good job of putting the ball on the deck since teams are playing her tight on the perimeter, making a career-high 11 attempts from the free-throw line, where she knocked down nine tries. SWAIN POSTS CAREER NIGHT VS UCF Senior guard Jasbriell Swain is a nice story for the Tigers. Swain was a walk-on for the Tigers this year. After playing three seasons at Binghamton University, Swain moved home to Memphis to be close to her family. With the Tigers on a short roster, Swain went through the walk-on process and the Tigers processed an appeal on her behalf to the NCAA. The appeal was approved and Swain suited up for Memphis in a road win at Wright State, where she opened her career with a bang, grabbing 16 rebounds. The next road trip, she was surprised by the Tigers’ coaching staff, who put her on scholarship for this season. As she has gotten comfortable in the Memphis system, Swain is starting to become a bigger offensive threat. She has posted back-to-back five assist games (her career high) against Louisville and UCF, and added her first career double-digit scoring night in the win over UCF, finishing with 10 points. GETTING ON THE GLASS Memphis is 7-1 when they out-rebound their opponents and 3-10 when they don’t. .On the defensive glass, Memphis has been upside down in second chance points in five of the last seven games. In league play, the Tigers are being out-rebounded by a -2.6 margin.

HEAD COACH MELISSA McFERRIN

Melissa McFerrin 6th Season at Memphis At Memphis: 106-79 (.573) Career: 156-149 (.511)

McFERRIN’S RECORD BY OPPONENT

Melissa McFerrin was named the University of Memphis women’s basketball coach on April 19th, 2008, becoming the fourth coach in the program’s modern history. McFerrin, the 2008 Patriot League Coach of the Year, spent four seasons at American University in Washington D.C. Her 2007 American team advanced to the Patriot League championship game and her 2008 squad won the school’s first-ever Patriot League regular season championship, finishing with an 18-14 overall record. That team won 11 of 12 games down the stretch, advancing to the post season for the first time since 1997-98 with a WNIT bid. In four seasons at American, McFerrin compiled a 50-70 record and guided five different players to all-conference honors, while two other players earned all-freshman honors. Prior to her stint with American, McFerrin was an associate head coach at the University of Minnesota from 2002-2004. She helped Minnesota to a 50-15 record, including an NCAA Final Four appearance in 2004 and a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2003. She signed two recruiting classes ranked in the top 20 at Minnesota, and helped guide two Kodak All-Americans, including WNBA player

Lindsey Whalen. McFerrin’s time at Minnesota came after a five-year association with the WNBA. She began her affiliation with the WNBA as an assistant coach with the New York Liberty from 1997-1999, assisting with coaching duties for the 1997 WNBA Championship runner-up Liberty squad. She moved to the Washington Mystics as an assistant coach in 1999-2000, taking over as the Mystics’ General Manager in 2000. As the GM, she guided a team that made its first-ever WNBA play-off appearance in 2000, and handled all player trades and draft decisions before joining the coaching staff at Minnesota. Her WNBA stint followed a 14-year coaching career that made three different stops. McFerrin began her coaching career as a graduate assistant at Wayland Baptist University in Texas from 1983-84. She was then hired as an assistant coach at Central Michigan University, where she helped the Chippewas to a 95-77 record in her six seasons, including a 1985 Mid-American Conference championship. She left Central Michigan in 1990 to become an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, she helped the Buckeyes to a 118-90 record and a 1993 Big Ten championship and an NCAA National Championship runner-up. That 1993 squad benefited from a 1992 McFerrin recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in the nation, one of seven Buckeye recruiting classes to be nationallyranked under McFerrin’s watch at OSU. In 1996, McFerrin helped guide the Buckeyes to the NCAA Second Round before leaving the following season for the WNBA. A native of Cassville, Mo., McFerrin was a four-year letterwinner and starting point guard for the University of Missouri Tigers from 1979 to 1983. She helped Missouri to a 1983 Big Eight tournament championship and NCAA tournament berth and a 1982 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance, earning Big Eight honorable mention honors and Scholar-Athlete awards along the way. She graduated cum laude with a degree in secondary education from Missouri in 1983, and received her master’s degree in physical education from Central Michigan in 1988.

HEARN WORKING TOWARD 900TH CAREER POINT .Through 55 career games (51 games as a starter), sophomore guard Ariel Hearn has been a consistent scorer. She is averaging 15.2 ppg for her career (17.2 ppg this year). With her 18 points against UCF, Hearn pushed past the 800 career point mark. She enters the first game with USF with 821 career points. FRESHMAN POINT GUARD PUSHING TOWARD 100 Freshman point guard Breigha Wilder-Cochran is 9 assists shy of the 100 assist mark. Only two other freshmen in Memphis history have dished out 100 or more assists in a season. The first was Ruth Ann Forsythe in 1983-84. The second was Ariel Hearn, last season. Hearn owns the freshman single season assist record with 109 assists last year. Wilder-Cochran has 91 assists against 78 turnovers. WILLIAMS PASSES 100TH POINT Freshman Taylor Williams was signed at Memphis as a guard. With a shallow Tiger front court, the Kansas City native has been playing at the three and four spots for the Tigers this season. She made her first collegiate career start in the Tigers’ home game against No. 1 UConn back in Memphis’ second conference game of the season. Her first bucket in the game at Rutgers on Saturday was a three-point field goal which pushed her past the 100 career point mark. She has knocked down 16 three-point field goals in her first year of college basketball. Nine more puts her in the Memphis freshman single season top 10. FUQUA-BEY LOOKING FOR 400TH POINT Sophomore forward Asia Fuqua-Bey is 16 points shy of hitting the 400 point barrier. She has 384 career points through 54 games heading in to the USF game. Fuqua-Bey moved in to the Memphis starting lineup as a freshman last year just 14 games in to her Tiger career. She has now started 41 straight games for the Tigers. HOPE ONE BLOCK SHY OF CAREER TOP 10 Senior center Pa’Sonna Hope leads Memphis with 18 blocks so far this season (after 35 last year). Her 53 career blocks is just one shy of the Tigers’ career top 10. Hope played two seasons at Ole Miss before transferring to Memphis before the 2012-13 season. She had 33 blocked shots at Ole Miss, which would give her 86 for her entire college career.

PAGE 4

HEARN LOOKING FOR 100TH CAREER PICK Ariel Hearn is known as a scorer. Last year, she was known for her ability to drive the ball and score through contact, this year, it’s for her work from the three-point line. The next part of her game to get some attention will be defense. She enters the USF game with 93 career steals, seven shy of the century mark. STRIVE FOR SEVENTY Memphis loves to run offense. When the Tigers score 70 or more points, they are 8-1. When they are held to 69 or fewer points, they are 2-10. OVERTIME? SURE, WHY NOT? The Tigers have played 20 games this year, but have played almost 21 games worth of minutes. Memphis has played five overtime games already this season, including two double-overtime games. The Tigers are 1-1 in double overtime (both road games) and are 2-1 in overtime games with just one extra session (2-0 at home and 0-1 on the road). Memphis is now 13-12 in overtime games in school history and is 7-3 in overtime under Melissa McFerrin. Wisconsin holds the NCAA record for overtime games in a season with seven in 1999, fyi.

UNIVERSITY OF MEMPHIS

FIRST WIN OVER RANKED OPPONENT Memphis brings a three-game winning streak in to Wednesday’s match-up with UConn after upsetting No. 23 Rutgers, 74-73, in overtime in the Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. That win was the first over a ranked team for Memphis since a 64-58 win over No. 20 DePaul on Jan. 26, 2003 (also a conference game). The win improved Memphis to 2-0 all-time against teams ranked No. 23 in the country and was the program’s 19th win over a ranked opponent in 93 tries. ANOTHER FIRST FOR THE SEASON The win over Rutgers was the first time this season the Tigers trailed at the half and came back for the victory. At one point, Memphis trailed by 11 points in the first half. That’s the biggest margin of deficit erased by Memphis this season. The previous best was 10 in the first game of the season against East Tennessee State. Memphis is 1-8 when trailing at the half this season. HOPE MISSES BULK OF HOUSTON GAME Senior Pa’Sonna Hope tried to play through illness when Memphis hosted Houston, but could manage just six minutes before the Tiger coaching staff put her on the bench. The single-digit minutes were the fewest of her career and were part of a four-game, double-digit scoring streak getting snapped against Houston. SWAIN STEPS UP AGAINST HOUSTON Senior guard Jasbriell Swain started the second half for the Tigers against Houston with Taylor Williams already tagged with two fouls. Swain responded by knocking down her first career triple for the Tigers and was 3-for-4 from the free-throw line, adding four rebounds. The six points was the most of her Memphis career. FUQUA-BEY EARNS REPEAT AMERICAN ATHLETIC WEEKLY HONOR ROLL Asia Fuqua-Bey was named to The American’s weekly honor roll after hitting the game-winning freethrows in overtime vs. No. 23 Rutgers and then leading the Tigers with 18 points in the win over Houston. It was the second time this season for Fuqua-Bey to earn a spot on the American Athletic Conference honor roll. She was also named to the honor roll Dec. 16th. Asia Fuqua-Bey FUQUA-BEY HITS GAME-WINNING FREETHROWS VS RUTGERS Asia Fuqua-Bey was 0-for-2 from the free-throw line against Rutgers when she was sent to the line in overtime with a pair of free-throws in the double bonus. Her first make tied the game at 73 and her second gave Memphis the one point advantage that held up as the clock wound down. The two makes as the game wound down got Fuqua-Bey to 10 points, giving her double-digit points for the first time in six games for the Tigers. She finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds. HEARN EYING CAREER RECORD BOOK Ariel Hearn is seven three-point field goals shy of breaking in to the single season top 10 in three-point field goals made with 45 made triples this season. She needs 52 to catch Jessica Hall’s mark from the 2007-08 season. For her career, Hearn is 28 threes shy of 100 as a Tiger. In school history, only eight other players have knocked down 100 or more threes in a career.

HOPE PUTS UP DOUBLE DIGITS FOR FOURTH STRAIGHT NIGHT Senior post Pa’Sonna Hope had a tough shooting night from the field in the opening half of the Rutgers game, but stayed strong at the free-throw line, hitting 6-for-8 and finishing with 16 points for her fourth straight double-digit scoring night of the season. Hope has scored double-digits in all four conference games this season and it is the first time in her Tiger career that she has scored double digit points in four straight games. The Cleveland native now has nine double-digit scoring games this season after hitting 10 or more points just five times last year. TWO POST DOUBLE-DOUBLE IN WIN OVER RUTGERS Memphis had two players put up a double-double in the win over No. 23 Rutgers. Pa’Sonna Hope had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Fuqua-Bey finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds. That was the fifth double-double of the season and the sixth of her career for Hope. It was the second of the season and the third of her career for Fuqua-Bey. WINNING CLOSE GAMES Head Coach Melissa McFerrin has been telling her young team that Memphis wins close games. Already this season, Memphis has played five overtime games (with a 3-2 record) and has played three one-point decisions (with a 2-1 mark).
