MEMORIALMISSIONS

Memorial & Missional Living Extending the Community of Christ By Pastor John Davis

“Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a son of peace is there, your peace will rest upon him.” – Luke 10:5-6a

1

Who are the people of peace in your life? Who are those individuals with whom you have a relationship that are receptive to the peace you have in Christ? Perhaps they are family members who are struggling. Maybe it is a coworker or a classmate. It could be your mechanic or your hair stylist or the cashier at the grocery store. Jesus instructed his disciples to reach out to “people of peace,” to gain a rapport with them, to care for them, and then to tell them the good news of the Kingdom of God. In other words: know them, show them, tell them. So, who do you know? Take time to think about all the people you have contact with. How well you know them is important, but how well they know you is also important. If you told them about Jesus would your words be consistent with your life? Do they know you as a person, just like them, with a life complete with joys and sorrows, triumphs and struggles? Do they know you well enough to see how you navigate through these varying times of life? If they don’t, then the first step toward discipling them and bringing the good news of the Kingdom to them is to get to know them better so they might know you better—so they might know Jesus better. Engage with them in conversation. Learn about their family and their life and don’t be afraid to be vulnerable about your own. Ask if you can pray for them—and then do it. And the peace of God that is in your life will be shared with them. If they receive it, then do as Christ said—know them (even more), show them, and then tell them about Jesus and their place in His Kingdom!

On any military mission there are basic needs that any team needs. Yes, they need a plan. Yes, they need a target. Yes, they need supplies. Yes, they need leadership. They need all these things and more. Yet, even if they had all these elements if there were no communication there would be no plan, no good use for the

MEMORIALMISSIONS

Missional Living as an 8 Year Old Young Disciple Makes Money for Missions at Memorial By Elizabeth Chitwood

What exactly is a mission? According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, a mission is: “a ministry commissioned by a religious organization to propagate its faith or carry on humanitarian work.” As a church, Memorial Katy carries out mission by sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ to all people, starting right here in the heart of Katy. How are we doing this?

“...sometimes the most effective missions occur when they are ʻhome grownʼ and start from the hearts of the individuals who make up our church. Leo Praesen”

Our very own, Katie Goerner, is setting a wonderful example of missions! She started her own business and is making various crafts, selling them to family and friends. She has decided to give some of the proceeds to missions here at Memorial. So far, she has given $20! A unique thing about this mission is that it is not “commissioned by a religious organization” – instead, this is an organic ministry-business plan that the Lord put on Katie’s heart – and she responded! Although the church as an organization does a great job of getting missions started, be it overseas or local,

sometimes the most effective missions occur when they are “home grown” and start from the hearts of the individuals who make up our church. Katie currently has 30 more cross-crafts, so if you would like to support this mission-business, be sure to see her before they are all sold out!

So, what has the Lord put on your heart? May it be a wonderful mission opportunity to reach the lost with the Good News of Jesus!
