THE HUB OF THEATRE IN MANCHESTER Manchester has a long history with theatre. The first records of plays in manchester were recorded in the 1600’s and as popularity grew, the first theatres were constructed. The very first theatre to be built in manchester was in the 1700’s and by the early 1800’s there were a number of theatres that had been built in order to accommodate the public demand.

Today there are over 15 theatres in the city of Manchester and Greater Manchester area. There are theatres in Bolton, Stockport and Oldham. The main hub of theatres in on Oxford Road in Manchester city centre of which seven of manchester’s theatres are on that road. Oxoford Road is a buzzing centre for the arts in Manchester with theatres and other venues

such as the Cornerhouse and Palace theatre. With hotels and bars with in a short distance of the theatres, it is an ideal place to go visit before a show.
