Founded by the passionate duo, Matt Kerswil and Rachel Wood, this academy thrives on the unwavering support of local volunteers and generous sponsors. Our mission is profound: to uplift and empower the youth of South Africa, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, by providing them with a safe haven and a chance to flourish.
At Strikers, we offer free football training that not only hones athletic skills but
also instills discipline, teamwork, and resilience. Currently, we nurture 120 boys, aged 6 to 18+, divided into five dedicated teams: U11, U13, U15, U17, and the First Team. But our commitment extends far beyond the football field.
We create a nurturing environment where these young minds can thrive academically and personally. Our volunteers assist with homework, ensuring that education remains a priority. Our feeding scheme ensures that no child goes hungry, providing the nourishment they need to grow and
learn. Additionally, we supply clothing, shoes, and training equipment, relieving the burden on families and allowing the children to focus on their development. The impact of Strikers Development Academy on the community has been profound. Many parents have reached out to us, expressing how Strikers has brought about positive change, with their children becoming more focused and happier. We've seen players turn away from bad influences, choosing instead to spend their weekends on the field, putting in the hard work and dedication.
One remarkable transformation is that of a young player who joined us filled with anger and struggling with his temper. His
sister, who was raising him, was at her wit's end. After just three months with Strikers, his sister shared, "You have given me a new brother." Through emotional support and close guidance from Coach Matt, this young boy learned to channel his anger in healthy ways. We even helped him start a small business selling snacks at school, giving him a sense of purpose and achievement.
Strikers Development Academy is a sanctuary from the harsh realities many of these children face. In a world where drugs
and negative influences are constant threats, our academy offers a safe space where kids can find a sense of belonging and purpose. Here, they build friendships, learn life skills, and develop the confidence to dream big.
We are not just building athletes; we are molding future leaders, responsible citizens, and happier individuals. Each child who walks through our doors becomes part of a family that supports and believes in them. Our ultimate goal is to open up a world of opportunities, proving that every child has the right to a stable, nurturing environment and the chance to achieve their full potential.

Harbour2Heads Canoe Challenge: A Spectacle of Elegance and Athleticism
The ten days of this year’s annual Knysna Oyster Festival have been truly exceptional, culminating in the Harbour2Heads Challenge on a perfect morning for paddling. This prestigious event, drawing paddlers from far and wide, began at the stunning location of the Knysna Yacht Club, charted a set course on the Lagoon and concluded back at the Yacht Club.
Engel & Völkers Knysna, renowned for specialising in brokering yachts, aircraft and high-end properties, played a pivotal role by hosting the paddlers at the Main Beach on Thesen Island, expertly marshalling the portage across a 100m stretch of beach after 12 km and 24km of highspeed paddling on the renowned estuary, past the famous Heads, adding a thrilling element to the race.
Supported by outstanding co-sponsors such as Engel &
Völkers Knysna, Lombkor, Fusion Power Boats and title sponsor Vision Yachts, this year's race was a resounding success with 89 canoes and 123 paddlers participating in K1 and K2. The gruelling 24 km race was fiercely contested, with Tom Lovemore ultimately taking first place, sweeping past his competitors.
