Melbourne’s Best Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Fine Dining melbournebusinesstraveler / March 10, 2014

One of the great benefits to frequent business travel is the option to eat out. Given the number of times I have traveled to Melbourne on business, I have done a lot of eating at restaurants. At this stage, I definitely have a list of my favorite places to dine, all of which are not too far from the abundance of long term accommodation Melbourne offers the ever present business traveller. Melbourne certainly does not disappoint in variety and quality of places to eat.

My pick of where to eat when you’re on the move Breakfast Before my morning meetings in St Kilda I often like to visit the Galleon ( for a delicious breakfast meal. However if I am having a later meeting, or a late start to my work day, they do serve breakfast till quite late. I have heard they serve breakfast until 4, although by that stage I am more than definitely well into my workday. The Galleon is a modern café, located just South of St Kilda. Breakfast dishes are delicious, and I often to struggle to make my mind up between croissants, truffle eggs, vegetarian breakfasts and big cookups. Unfortunately for my waistline, (but not for my tastebuds), I do have a taste for bacon and poached eggs. Prices for the café are also very reasonable and a breakfast meal will cost between $8-$18. Lunch I often find myself enjoying lunch at Taxi Kitchen ( I originally visited the place due to its location in Melbourne’s central business district, and the delicious smell coming from the area. However I have made many return visits, and find that it is one of the best places to enjoy lunch in Melbourne. They have an excellent quality of produce, and serve both Japanese and modern Australian food. However if you’re visiting only once, I would suggest trying the chef’s tasting menu, so you can have a sampling of many of the meals the kitchen serves up. Prices are also reasonable, with meals ranging from $8.00 to $40.00. Dinner By dinnertime I often find myself eating at The Movida Next Door (, which has great menu options. The place is on Flinders street, near the business district, other dining establishments and not too far from long term serviced apartments. Melbourne definitely does not disappoint! They serve my favorite cuisine, Spanish, at $10-$30 a plate. I can particularly recommend their calamari, however all the meals I have tried have been excellent, and they have received many awards for their food. I have tried to replicate their meals, using the recipes on their website, but it was not quite the same. Fine dining However my recommendation for fine dining is the Rockpool Bar and Grill ( It is located in Southbank, just a few minutes south of Melbourne’s central business district. They serve fantastic seafood and steak, and the quality of the beef is renowned for being aged to perfection. The atmosphere of the establishment is equally as enjoyable, and the service is noticeably good. Meals cost from $22 to $240. Rockpool Bar and Grill is generally my place of choice for important business dinners.  Tw itter
