Letter from our Co-Founder My wife Mélanie, lived her life in a way that inspired so many of us. Long before she had cancer, Mélanie was committed to making the most out of every moment, every experience, and she doubled down on that commitment when she was faced with an end that came far too soon. In 2015, we lost Mélanie, but she left behind an incredible legacy. When I think about her, I don’t focus on the pain of losing her – I think about the beauty of the experiences we shared, and I know I am fortunate. We founded Mélanie’s Way to help those who do not have the means to create the legacy they want to leave their loved ones. We help young women with metastatic or relapsed cancer by creating personalized experiences – wishes – that bring them and their loved ones joy and forge lasting memories for those they will leave behind. We have a lot to celebrate from the past year – the third year since we began this effort to expand the definition of serving young women with metastatic or relapsed cancer beyond extending survival, to focus on maximizing joy and creating shared memories with their loved ones. This report aims to share with you some of the stories of our wish recipients – and to recognize the volunteers and supporters who made it all possible. Most importantly, it is dedicated to the amazing young women whom we serve, and the inspirational woman who started it all. Rob Chalmers, Co-Founder

Highlights of 2018 Sarah’s Wish

A Very Special Anniversary Celebration Celebrating her five-year anniversary with her husband at Dreams Punta Cana, where they got married

“Since my diagnosis we haven’t been back to our romantic paradise where we got married. Getting to spend my 5th anniversary at our resort and having time for us to be us and forget real life for a bit… that would mean everything to me.”

Lucia’s Wish

A Tropical Adventure

Soaking up the sun in Cuba with her husband and three kids

“Before my diagnosis a “bucket list” was the furthest thing from my mind. Mélanie’s adventures reminded me that we owe it to our families to live those dreams that we thought we could save for later, now, as it is those memories that will eventually bring some comfort.”

Jayda’s Wish

Meeting Harry Potter in Style

A Harry Potter-filled birthday celebration with her fiancé, complete with pools, rides, butterbeer and the special experience of leading the procession into the Great Hall

“Harry Potter has seen me through a lot. Before I got sick, it helped me fall asleep. A chapter or two, every night. In treatment, when I was too sick to have my eyes open or move, I listened to the book on loop.” Alyssa’s Wish

A Week Under the Sun Spending quality time relaxing with her husband and son in the Turks and Caicos Islands

“Since starting treatment for my relapse, we have talked about taking a trip as a way of making some positive family memories, after years of tough times. I want my son to have happy memories of us as a family.”

Kate’s Wish

Magical Memories at Disney Creating magical memories with her three kids and husband at Disney, where she used to be a Disney on Ice princess

“I want to be able to enjoy each other with no worries or rush. To make memories to last my kids and husband a lifetime. To go on an adventure beyond their dreams.” Tracy’s Wish

A Rock and Roll Experience Time to appreciate her husband and two kids at Hard Rock, Punta Cana, which offered a water park for her five-year-old daughter and a rock’n’roll experience for her teenage son

“All the time, I feel bad for my kids as they have a broken mom. I just want to make as many memories as possible before it’s too late.” ...and we had the privilege to grant four more wishes. You can see those stories on our Facebook page or at www.melaniesway.com
