Data Making Our team compiled a spreadsheet containing data for the population of the world and the estimate total dead from 10 different years in history, ranging from 50,000 BCE to 2011 CE.

26

Data Making Located in Portland, OR, USA Responsibility - Design - Modeling - Visualizing

27

By performing a series of mathematical abstractions on the data, we developed a polygon that references an average relation of the dead to the living across our given period of time.

Total Dead

World Population

28

To further develop the geometry, we began with a diagram that represents how the dead and the living relate to each other. In this first example, the two are separated by the ground line.

29

To further connect the relationship of the dead to the living, we found that one geometry can be used instead of two if rotated on an axis that is centered on the ground line.

Recognizing the persistent growth of the world population and the total dead, we decided to represent the rate of growth by scaling our geometry in a series of 10 corresponding to our data.

By rotating the series along the circle, we can reference the speculated infinite nature of time and stay true to the relationships defined in the previous diagram. The result is a mobius geometry with a point of 0, where the total dead and living reset before continuing the cycle.

30

Fabrication & Installation

At 8’ wide and deep , the full size model is to be constructed with two 24’ x 32’ x 2” thick glass sheets, floating and laser cut. From the sheets, 20 tiles will be made for the lower half (the dead) and 19 pieces for the upper half (the living).

Flight Crew Union This union design has two main points for flight crew. One is training skills, the other one is welfares. There are professional technical service, expertise & experience center, communication skills center for education and fatigue & scheduling office, pensions & welfare office, occupational health & safety office for welfares. I hope these can help them improve flight safety through training skills part and ensure their benefits of career and employment.

Immigration Resource Center The project designs for those who need to understand American life and keep diversities. Resource and assistance are provided to immigrants in this project. The clients feel welcome and comfortable. They can relax themselves and gain more confidences here. The building design balance with site condition. Nature is also an important element to be considered. The program includes recreation, mental and physical health, legal service, job and academic education, and cultural diversity.

Chinese Community Center It is an investigation into the connections between public building and belonging. I design a recognized, appropriate and interactive project that belongs to my hometown. It combines Chinese traditional culture and modern life specifically for Tianyi. It explores a new Chinese style architecture.
