Raleigh Charter senior dies after fall From Staff Reports PUBLISHED IN: WAKE COUNTY A Raleigh Charter High School senior died Sunday after being critically injured in a fall at school the day before he was set to graduate.

Mehdy Hazheer, 18, fell while at the school Friday night during an event where the seniors commemorated their four years at the nationally recognized school, according to Principal Tom Humble. According to a 911 call, eyewitnesses at the scene said Hazheer fell between 10 to 15 feet to the ground while trying to climb up the side of the school building. Hazheer was in WakeMed's neuro-intensive care unit for two days before dying Sunday afternoon Students held a moment of silence during Saturday’s graduation ceremony. Hazheer, who had been accepted into Harvard University, was to have given a speech at the ceremony. The speech was read by his math teacher. “He had a good mind,” Humble said. “He was interested in so many things.” In addition to his academic accomplishments, Humble noted how caring Hazheer was of his fellow man. Humble said Hazheer started the school’s Intefaith Alliance to bring different religious groups together and was coordinated relief efforts for tsunami victims from Japan and tornado victims in North Carolina. “He was an inspiration to others,” Humble said. In tribute, Hazheer's friends uploaded a video to YouTube.
