MESSAGE FROM THE PRODUCER Welcome to the Rome Little Theatre. You are about to witness a story and courtroom trial like no other. This show has turned out to be a huge success thanks to many hard working people. The actors have been a joy to work with. Kid's shows could not be successful without great parents. We were blessed to have so many wonderful and helpful parents, much thanks to you all. I must give a special thanks to Tina Brinson for her never ending love, support, and hard work. Many times, Tina was what kept me going. Last but not least, a huge thanks to my husband Wayne Jones for letting me take this journey with you. Now sit back, relax, and prepare to make your verdict in the 3 Little Pigs and The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf. Break a leg Anslee Abrams. Mimi loves you "more then this whole town and city!"

MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR This is my eighth production to direct for RLT, and for the third straight year, Angela and I have spent the summer preparing actors for the first show of a new season. While last summer’s production, Oliver Twist, was most likely the darkest of these shows, this current production, The 3 Little Pigs/The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf, is probably the lightest, most fun production of the 8. Now let me qualify the word “fun”. What I mean is fun for the audience, because while there was certainly joy in preparing these actors for you, the process overall hasn’t been a great deal of “fun”. 20 percent of the actors you see were not initially cast in this show in these particular roles. The age range of the cast is from 4 to 18, with a wide range of experience; indeed, half of this cast is appearing in either their first or second RLT production. And each of the various age groups in this show presents their own unique challenges. Several people we had counted on to be a major part of this production have for various reasons had to drop out as recently as two weeks prior to today. Add to that the fact that we are not getting new seats prior to this show, and as of writing this I’m not even sure what condition the new concession area or the renovated bathroom will be in on Opening Night, or whether we will have a finished box office (not to mention the fact that our display window---long a tradition here---has been demolished)…well, as you can see, the stress hasn’t just been limited to the stage! But let’s turn our attention to the fun time you are about to have. We start with the traditional story of the 3 Little Pigs, which I have read to my granddaughter well over 100 times now! I have adapted it to add length, as well as fit it to what comes next…the play The Trial of the Big Bad Wolf. Seems the pigs have pressed charges against the wolf for damaging their property. But the crafty wolf is also countersuing for personal injury…namely his burned tail. A jury of their peers—in this case other fairy tale characters---sit in

deliberation, many with their own secrets to hide, while a “wise” judge presides over the hearing, with the help of his trusty clerk, who quite frequently employs “polysyllabic utterances”. The courtroom spectators are also filled with celebrities from fairytale land, and we have reporters from three distinct time periods---a newspaper reporter, a TV newscaster, and a Town Crier. These young actors have had a great deal of joy in developing these quirky characters, and you will not only find something in their performances to enjoy, no matter what your age, but there is a message to learn from this show as well. I won’t dwell on it here because I don’t want to spoil the ending. Directing a production takes large amounts of passion, organization, and energy. If any one of these is missing or diminished in any way, the other two suffer by proxy. My greatest challenge this summer has been maintaining the proper energy level to do justice to the cast, crew, and above all, the patrons. While reflecting upon the past 18 months-– directing now my third show; producing a variety show; performing in 6 shows (including the variety show I produced); experiencing the loss of my father, my father-in-law, and two very dear theatre friends; the swift and drastic change in my mother’s health and quality of life; doing my best to support two very close family members who have had to endure horrible personal experiences; and maintaining a business in a struggling economy---well, I guess that’s why I’ve been struggling with energy issues. Without the help and support of my wonderful wife Angela (who also happens to be the best children’s show producer I have ever worked with) as well as the support of my young cast, their families, and my fellow crew members, this show would not have made it to this night. There is still to me no greater thrill than Opening Night, and I am thankful to so many for yet one more opportunity to experience it. Finally, thank you for being here. You are the reason we exist, and whose support means the most. With so many other choices you have in this very busy area, we are honored and pleased that you chose to spend your time with us.

Wayne Jones
