History
This year is an exciting one, marking 20 years since Jane started the stud in the hills of Sugarloaf at 14 years old, with the support and guidance from her father, Alex Tickle. As sixth generation on the family property at Sugarloaf, cattle is in Jane’s blood, with father Alex breeding stud and commercial Herefords for many years, and in more recent times Angus.
2004 was a special year as Jane and her father secured the very first Charolais cow – Cobrabald Royal, with heifer calf at foot Royal 6, in addition to heifer Palgrove Appeal 16. These females went on to be instrumental in the stud, with Royal 6 having her own very special heifer calf in 2007 – Alpine Supermodel C2E. Supermodel would go on to be the heart of the Alpine herd. You can read more about her on our female page – a snapshot of some of our core donor cows in our program.
The stud continued to strengthen, and as a teen Jane had the opportunity to show her cattle at many shows across NSW, and was fortunate enough to experience considerable success.
2009 saw the purchase of high seller Palgrove Beckham B417E, a bull that has had tremendous influence on the type of cattle we breed. Quality females have been retained and an outstanding son (E7E) and grandson (Q11E) have been used both in the stud and commercially, with incredible results. You will find five great grandsons of Beckham’s in this catalogue.
In 2011 while away at uni, Jane met Justin, a fresh-faced young stock and station agent, also from generations of stud and commercial cattle breeding. Justin ran a small herd of 100 Brahman and 80 Santa cross females in partnership with his family, using Charolais bulls including E7E over these females.
Charolais were instrumental in building the Sanderson family’s herd from that point onwards. Now we join over 600 females to Alpine Charolais sires at our property at Gwabegar, lease country at Warren and various agistment properties.
Justin, now a director of their agency, sees time and time again the commercial capabilities of the Charolais breed in all conditions throughout Australia, with Alpine bulls breeding quality, eye-catching cattle with extra weight.
With a combined passion for the breed, Jane and Justin have built the stud herd together to 70 Alpine females on their home property between Dubbo and Collie, with the additional purchase of the Rockwood Charolais herd from Holbrook in late 2022. These cows are run on their lease property towards Narromine, culminating to a joining of 140 stud Charolais females.
The Bulls
Our bulls on offer in the Sugarloaf Angus bull sale represent a selection of 10 polled Charolais sires from our group of sale bulls this year. Seven of the 10 bulls have been implanted as embryos and reared at Sugarloaf on recipient cows, in order to gain immunity to Theileria. Thank you to Jane’s father, Alex for the use of these cows. This year’s bulls haven’t had any special treatment. They were raised in the hills on their recipient mothers, weaned to grass country at our home property, then taken out to Warren to large 700-acre paddocks of natural pastures to grow out and learn to cover the miles. Only in the past two months have the bulls been moved onto a grain ration in preparation for the sale.
We have included the latest Breedplan data available before this catalogue went to print. Select bulls including our yearling bulls will have their EBV data provided in the form of a supplementary sheet at the Open Day on 6 July.
All bulls have been semen tested for morphology and motility, treated with 7-in-1 and tick fever vaccinations (to suit Northern QLD), drenched, conditioned and are ready to work.

At the heart of our herd, Supermodel is one of our foundation females and lead donors. She is still going strong at rising 17 years of age. Supermodel and her progeny are stamped with captivating eye appeal that always makes you take a second look. She has bred us donor cows and semen sires and has also had great success in the show ring, including at Royal shows. Supermodel has been a huge influence on the type of cattle we breed – quiet, easy-doing cattle with plenty of thickness.

The start of the Model line of females, E11 is one of our favourite donor cows! Out of the original Alpine Supermodel C2E by Palgrove Beckham B417E, she stamps her progeny with length, softness, correctness, bombproof temperament and beautiful udders. Staying sound until 15 years old, and flushing 20 A-grade embryos at 14 years old, longevity is certainly packed in her breeding.

Lot 1 at the 2017 Palgrove Showcase Female Sale and purchased by Alpine for $9000. This eye-catching polled female is extremely fertile, easy-doing and has plenty of volume. Refine 157 is well above average for most performance traits, including top 5% for IMF%, top 10% for Fat Cover and top 15% for EMA and 200D weight.

Purchased as part of the last of the Blaweary herd at Sydney Royal in 2015, Emogene really stood out to us for having a huge amount of grunt, yet still having all of the feminine traits we strive for including a beautiful, highvolume udder. Mother of one of our leading sires Alpine Quicksilver Q11E, Emogene has consistently stamped her progeny with her high-performing, high volume traits.

We first saw Memphis, a Silverstream Evolution son, at 15 months old on our first trip to New Zealand. Memphis really caught our attention due to his exceptional growth, bone, broad muzzle, soft skin, and perfect feet and structure.
