B L E S S IN G S ,
THE CATERPILLAR TEAM We are so grateful for the INCREDIBLE team God has knit together at Caterpillar Ministries over the past several years! These individuals have helped Caterpillar take flight in more ways than we can count, and we would not be where we are as a ministry without each of them. In 2018, we were able to welcome Pat as our first-ever Tutoring Director, Aileen as our Youth Director, Lee as our Communications Director and Megan as our Marketing Director. We love seeing our team grow and expand, and can’t wait to see where God takes all of us next!
CHERRI JOHNSON CHILDREN’S DIRECTOR
The heart of Caterpillar Ministries is to show the grace and beauty of Jesus to our neighbors. To come alongside them — embracing, educating and encouraging — as God, in His loving-kindness, enables them to be ALL HE CREATED THEM TO BE.
A second-grader at Torrence Creek Elementary School, Bentley has grown up as a little Caterpillar. Anne Crawford held him as an infant, and Bentley has been encouraged to know Jesus loves him since he was 3. His sweet, smiling face is welcomed at Kids Club, tutoring, summer camp and many other events. Bentley reads — and KNOWS — his Bible and says he wants “to be a preacher” when he grows up. He has two younger siblings and is being raised by an aunt, uncle and grandmother, because his parents are not available. Bentley’s love for Jesus, others and life is a beautiful testament to all God is doing at Huntington Green, and stories like his encourage us to keep moving forward!
“Caterpillar Ministries” shows care, love and support to my family and others in my community. They never fail to show me the love of God, and I’m truly grateful.” After years of tutoring and participating in the high school girls’ small group, Elizabeth is now a freshman at Davidson College and succeeding in her spring semester. She was awarded the prestigious Quest Bridge scholarship (a full, four-year package) and the Caterpillar team has been thrilled to walk alongside Elizabeth in this new journey. We continue to remain inspired and grateful for the work God is doing in and through Elizabeth. What a joy it is to watch this beautiful young woman grow in both faith and maturity!
A 2018 graduate of Hopewell High School, José has grown into a responsible young man who has big goals for his future. He became part of Caterpillar’s programs in the first grade. His mother, Juanita, and sisters Andrea and Alejandra, also are active with Caterpillar, and they’ve supported him well. José worked hard to give himself more opportunities in his future. He is dedicated to a career with the U.S. Marine Corps and genuinely cares about changing this world for the better. His story is just one of the many that inspire us and keep our eyes fixed on what Jesus is up to in Huntington Green through Caterpillar Ministries, and we cannot wait to see where his future leads him!
Years ago, Maria tragically was hit by a car while playing in the neighborhood. An overcomer, she recovered and was a joyful part of all Caterpillar’s programs for children and teens. Earlier this year, Maria dutifully and proudly headed off to boot camp with the U.S. Navy.
A graduate of North Mecklenberg High School, Ana's heart for Huntington Green began when she moved into the neighborhood with her family at the age of 16. Now, many years later, Ana and Bernard are raising three children with their eyes on Jesus. Spending her latter years of teenage-hood as a neighbor has provided Ana with a unique window and understanding into the lives of our neighbors. With this perspective, Ana is now the Program Assistant for Caterpillar, where she helps translate and care for families. She began helping Anne with children's Bible studies years ago, when her oldest son was a toddler. "Caterpillar has help me learn more about the Bible and be a better mother," says Ana. "I am grateful for the Godly role models in the women I work with, and how they mentor me to grow as a ministry leader
As a former Huntington Green neighbor for 23 years, Sarah has remained a part of the community for the past several decades. Nearly three years ago, Sarah became homeless and lived mostly out of her car for more than two years. Not ever one to give up, Sarah now has a full-time job and resides nearby in her own apartment. While much of this success is tied to her own drive and desire to change her situation, Sarah also attributes much of her “new life to the benevolence she received from Caterpillar during those trying years. From help with food, a place to shower, money for lodging during the coldest of times and skills honed as part of the women’s Job Workshop ministry, Sarah was able to walk with Caterpillar through the trying chapter of her life and change it for the better. Sarah is an amazing picture of what it looks like to press in and keep eyes focused on what is ahead, rather than the past and the trail it leaves behind. We are so grateful to have played a small role in her story, and are looking forward to seeing all of the good that unfolds next.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2019... As God leads, we will continue to help our neighbors with their spiritual growth and healing, as well as emotional and physical burdens. We seek to provide continued safe places for our families to rest and receive God's redeeming love. In addition, having a Volunteer Coordinator on our team will enable us to inspire and engage more people to help us grow our programs, and consulting services with an IT firm will keep us technologically up to date. Also, a new partnership will enable us to give internships to neighborhood mothers. Finally, we have big God-given opportunities to help our teenagers achieve success in school and apply for college, and become better equipped to seek employment.
THANK YOU FOR PARTNERING WITH US IN PRAYER OVER THESE OPPORTUNITES: ▶Counseling for adults and children to address anxiety and family wholeness ▶Addiction recovery through Narcotics Anonymous
▶Housing to give shelter for temporary displacement and long-term homelessness ▶Increasing and engaging our volunteer base
▶Completing IT improvements with Apparo Technology Solutions ▶Our College Team picking up speed with scholarships and college application help for our teens
▶Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream providing academic incentives for our youth and job interviewing skills ▶New partnership with La Escuelita San Marcos preschool to hire two neighbors as interns
