Manager Messages Message from General Manager, Jerome Louie

H

appy July! With this being my first summer in the Heartland of America, I look forward to celebrating the 4th of July at Salina Country Club and with its members. Join us for the SCC traditional Fireworks and BBQ! In July, we will begin keeping the pool open on Thursdays until 8pm – unless a private party is scheduled – please check the calendar. On Thursday, July 17, join us for a Jimmy Buffet night. “Cheeseburgers in Paradise”! Don’t forget Friday night HAPPY HOURS in the Grill Lounge (except on July 4). No better place to chill on a hot summer day. With June just behind us, we ran a successful member recruitment program

adding 12 new Preview members to the Salina Country Club roster. The Amnesty Program brings back six former members to our family. Please welcome all these members and make them feel at home. With inquiries continuing to come in, we look forward to additional members through the end of the season. Through the summer, Megan Berry will be focusing on strengthening our Business Membership ranks through the regional and national businesses located in Salina. Tournament golfers are also an area that she will be focusing on to build our Stock memberships. Even with the programs that Megan has in effect – Salina Country Club still relies on you – our members to bring in and recommend your friends, family and business associates. With the Charities Invitational and the River Festival on the same weekend, the staff pulled together and shined with SCC spirit! The F&B team brought a fabulous breakfast to the park on

Saturday morning for the Art Patrons of the Festival. The Salina Country Club was proudly represented! Sunday, June 22 presented Reggae night at the pool. Along with Caribbean music, there were big SUNglasses, Rasta dreadlocks, Jerk chicken sliders, and Hurricane drinks to get everyone in the mood. This was a fun event to break up the month. We look forward to a couple more of these through the season. Our search for an Executive Chef continues. With the assistance of chefs from various Troon properties, we have been very selective in our candidates. I want to acknowledge the Culinary team for all their hard work and dedication over the last month and a half – they haven’t skipped a beat. Thank you all for being a part of Salina Country Club – there is no better place to be (except maybe Florida). Stay Cool - Good Day and Good Golfing!

Membership & Marketing Message from Director of Membership Sales & Marketing, Megan Berry

I

’ve officially been at the Club for a month now and have really enjoyed myself. Faces and names are slowly becoming familiar and personalities are being discovered. Through the Preview Membership Program, we were able to bring in 12 new faces to the Club! I’ve attended my first Membership

Committee meeting and we hosted the first bash of the summer, Reggae Night last Sunday. On July 17, we will have a Jimmy Buffet Night, “Cheeseburgers in Paradise,” from 5-8pm at the pool. I look forward to many more exciting events. Be sure to attend the annual Fourth of July celebration. There will be great food, fun and games for the kids, and fireworks once it’s dark! Call the office to make your reservations. Please like us on Facebook; I plan to keep that page as updated as possible

for our members. Along with that, I’ve created a Pinterest page for those interested. I’ve also reconstructed the look of the newsletter to better provide you with the latest information. As always, if you know of someone who is interested in becoming a member at SCC, please don’t hesitate to e-mail or call me with their name and contact information. My e-mail address is mberry@troongolf.com and my number is 580.554.3077. Happy July, and I will see you all around the Clubhouse!

pcoming maintenance activities include: aerification of the tees, approaches and fairways. The operations are done on these areas during the active growing season for the warm season grasses to speed the healing process and to get the full benefits of the process. The process on the tees and approaches will be very similar to the

one used on the greens including core aerification and topdressing while the fairways will be core aerified only. These operations will occur in between scheduled events on the golf calendar to keep play disruption to a minimum. The benefits expected from these operations include: improved drainage, "firming" of the playing surface, thatch removal and improved turfgrass density

and coverage. During the summer months we are also on a program of regular vertical mowing of the fairways to also remove thatch and to promote a more "upright" growth pattern of the zoysia. Please feel free to stop by the Maintenance facility or catch me on the course with any questions, comments or ideas.

he Fourth of July tournament will begin at 8am on Friday, July 4. If there is a big turnout, tournament may start Thursday, July 3. There will be singles and doubles and it will be 4-game sets. Medals will be given to top four in all

The Ladies Tennis Association meets every Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30am to run drills.

Ladies Tennis Association The Ladies Tennis Association is excited to be growing and is thrilled to welcome their newest members. The enthusiasm felt by the membership was evident at our recent mixer on June 4. The drills were well attended and many stayed for the fun, casual play that followed. Not every lady was able to stay for our luncheon, but those who did were treated to a delicious menu planned by Toni Renfro exclusively for our group. Our table dĂŠcor suited the beautiful spring day thanks to Marj Morrow. Coach Bob Warkentine is able to work with all of the different levels of play and makes sure that everyone is learning and having fun. We look forward to seeing all of you at our drills every Wednesday morning from 8:30-9:30am.
