The last school bell has rung and summer has begun! We’ll have fun doing a variety of activities! We’ll grab our bagged lunches and head outside for a picnic! We’ll enjoy outdoor games and activities, music and movement, nature walks, and more! It will be a week filled with many fun things! Leave school behind you now, come and make new friends, and celebrate summer with us!

At week’s end receive a certificate of achievement for taking part in these fun and safe activities: trust walks, games, conquering the big Kin Coulee Park stairs, and trying out the simple fitness equipment right here on our college walking path (don’t worry, it’s quite easy and safe!) WEEK #5-PIRATES OF THE COULEES Aarrrrgh you ready to have some pirate fun? Join us for games, activities, and crafts that are all about these intriguing buccaneers. We’ll go on scavenger hunts, learn why pirates often shared their ships with maggots, and find out if there were female pirates in days of old! Some fun in Kin Coulee Park is definitely in store. Animal World Ages 5-7. So I hear you love animals? Well then, this camp is made for you! We will be learning about all types of animals - everything from household pets to jungle creatures and everything in between. But you’ll be busy in this camp because we will be doing lots of art projects, playing games and enjoying songs and stories and all with a twist of science. We may even have some surprise visitors! A Spoonful of Sugar Ages 5-7. A dusting of flour, a hint of cinnamon and a whole lot of fun… let’s get baking! In one week, we will be baking up a storm. There are cookies, cakes, pastries and other yummy goodies on the menu. We will also be learning about kitchen safety and about different cooking tools because that’s important too. THEACTRICS Summer Camp Ages 6-17. Drama, music & dance combine with all aspects of theatre to bring the following musical to production. Students will help create props, costumes, and sets as well as dance, sing and act. Fun for all ages!! Older students mentor the younger students and encourage their dramatic skills. A performance will be held on the final Friday of the camp. **Some reading required. **Children should bring a bag lunch. **NO REFUNDS will be made after classes start!

Night in the Wax Museum Book by Craig Sodaro Music by Bill Francoeuer The hysterical meets the historical in this comic romp through the wackiest wax museum in history! School’s out for summer, but not for six unlucky students who don’t know much about history — they have to re-take the class in summer school.  First year teacher Heather Fairchild has arranged for them to help her two aunts set up a new wax museum as a class project.  Though the students’ eyes glaze over with boredom, there’s a twinkle in the wax figures’ eyes when a mysterious incantation from the back of Cleopatra’s bracelet brings them to life!  King Henry VIII finds himself smitten with Cleopatra, making his queen, Anne Boleyn, furious.  If she can just not lose her head, John Adams is there to serve as her divorce attorney!  When Butch Cassidy, the Sundance Kid, Blackbeard and a bevy of lady pirates show up, everybody’s out for one thing—treasure! 3D Studio Max. Ages 10+. Step into the world of computer graphics with 3DS MAX. The creators of your favorite show or video game very likely use 3DS MAX or another Autodesk product in their works. Key topics will include shapes, 3D mesh objects, modifiers and mesh editing. Participants will be shown how to create a basic character or animal model and encouraged to create their own creatures. Jr. Soccer Camp Ages 5-7. This camp will focus on teaching campers the basics in a game oriented learning environment. Campers will focus on soccer FUNdamentals such as running with the ball, turning, passing, receiving and shooting (inside foot and laces). These skills will be taught using small-sided games, tag games, relay races and other types of exploratory games. This camp is led by the head men’s & women’s Rattlers soccer coach and players of the Rattlers soccer teams. This camp will meet at the main entrance of MHC on Aug. 13 and will meet the remainder of the days at the MHC soccer field. SC 0035

Sr. Soccer Camp Ages 8-12. This camp will focus on teaching campers crafty ways (i.e. strategy or tactics) to play the game of soccer. Campers will focus on soccer FUNdamentals PLUS tactics in 1 vs. 1, 2 vs. 2, 3 vs. 3 and 4 vs. 4 situations. Rattlers Basketball Camps Rattlers basketball camps are aligned with the Long Term Athlete Development Principles. This camp brings together ages that would be in the "Learn to Train" and "Train to Train" stages. The goal of our camps is to convert their fundamental movement skills into fundamental sport / basketball skills such as dribbling, passing and shooting while challenging their aerobic base.  They will do this through individual skill  work as well as applying those skills within the team setting. Women’s basketball head coach, Clayton Nielsen will be leading the Jr. High Basketball Camp & the men’s basketball head coach, Richard Humphrey will be leading the High School Basketball Camp. Our camp leaders take campers on a new adventure each day, some of these activities include hiking, survival skills, scavenger hunts, horseback riding, swimming, geo-caching, rock climbing, mini golfing, day trip to Echo Dale Regional Park and a day trip to Elkwater for frisbee golf and a bug adventure! You do not want to miss this action filled camp! This camp will meet in S103.

Outdoor Adventure Camp Ages 9-14. Test your limits with Outdoor Adventure Camp. Our camp leaders will take campers on a new adventure each day, some of these activities include hiking, horseback riding, frisbee golf, geo-caching, mini golfing, swimming at Echo Dale Regional Park and even a day trip to Elkwater for canoeing and mountain biking! This camp is designed for players interested in learning strategic plays, such as: serve and receive serves, passing to attack, setting to attack and blocking, defense to offense transition, as well as game drills and tournament/scrimmage play. You will learn how to make the right plays, what it takes to consistently execute those plays, and prepare mentally and physically for the court. Participants are grouped according to skill level (if necessary), to ensure that campers of all levels will be able to develop and strengthen both individual and team concept skills. Evaluations to determine skill level and groupings will be done on the first day of camp and the coaches will perform the assessment. This camp will meet in the gym. .

Your Child’s Safety All Sport & Wellness Summer Camp Head Coaches are certified in First Aid and CPR to ensure a top quality experience for your child. During staff training, all emergency procedures for the College and camp are thoroughly reviewed. As well, the department conducts regular risk management audits on all camp equipment and polices. Procedures that include custody arrangements, child abuse, behavior modification, weather conditions, and the self-esteem of your child are covered in training. We also enforce strict sign-in and sign-out policies. Please note that campers 11 years of age and under cannot leave the care of an instructor until a parent/guardian signs that child out. A child 12 years and older may leave on their own. If you would prefer that your child who is 12 years or older remains in the care of the instructors until a parent/guardian arrives, please indicate this on the registration sheet or by calling 403.504.3546 in advance of the camp start date.

Lunch Supervision All campers who are enrolled in a full day Sport & Wellness camp, as well as any campers that have combined a separate Sport & Wellness and Continuing Studies morning and afternoon camp, can participate in a FREE supervised lunch period. If your camper is registered in a full day Continuing Studies camp, please call 403.529.3844 for further details about lunch time care. Campers will eat their lunches on the upper level of the Medicine Hat College Cafeteria, which is an air conditioned area. Campers have the option of bring their own lunch or buying their lunch from the cafeteria. Lunch time transition and morning to afternoon camp transition are fully coordinated by camp staff. Food Allergies Because campers eat together, we cannot control all of the foods and odours that they may be exposed to as all campers in a designated area. We are a nut free camp, and we request that campers do not bring any foods that contain nuts, i.e. peanut butter or granola bars. If consuming nut products prior to arriving at camp, please wash hands diligently. If your child has any food allergies, we ask that you note them on your child’s registration form, and we will make every attempt to accommodate their needs.

Pick-up and Drop-off For the safety and security of all campers, the pick-up and drop-off area is located at the front of the C2 entrance of Medicine Hat College. Parents will be able to make use of the loading zone in front of the College. Drop-off for morning and full day programs will begin at 8:45am. Pick-up for morning programs will begin at 12:00 NOON. Drop-off for afternoon programs will begin at 12:45pm. Pick-up for afternoon and full day programs is between 4:00pm and 4:15pm. During the times prior to and following programmed activity periods, campers will continue to be supervised by Sport & Wellness Summer Camp staff. If campers have not been picked up by 4:15pm, a charge of $5 per 15 minutes will be enforced. If you require an earlier drop-off time and/or later pick up time, please register for the Pre and/or Post Care program to avoid any additional charges.
