Wells Fargo CityLIFT® Program has $15,000 Down Payment Assistance Grants Still Available for Inland Empire Eligible Homebuyers Potential homebuyers in select Inland Empire cities can still apply for Wells Fargo’s CityLIFT down payment assistance program which brought $4.8 million to the area. The $15,000 grants are available for eligible homebuyers to purchase a home through down payment assistance and homebuyer education programs in areas most impacted by the financial crisis. Last year, more than 100 down payment assistance grants of $15,000 were awarded to eligible residents to purchase a home. In fact, 52 homebuyers have purchased a home through the CityLIFT program in participating cities of San Bernardino, Fontana, Riverside, Corona and Moreno Valley. “We know the Inland Empire was one of the areas most deeply affected by the country’s housing crisis and while today mortgages are available at historically low interest rates, many families are still unable to purchase a home because they struggle with making the down payment,” said Laurence Beers Wells Fargo’s Home Mortgage manager. “The CityLIFT program has provided homebuyer education to nearly 250 prospective local homebuyers who are in the process of closing on a home with down payment assistance.” Potential homebuyers with a purchase contract in one of the five participating Inland Empire cities can apply for the down payment assistance program and if qualified, receive up to $15,000 towards the down payment of their new home. To qualify for down payment assistance,applicants must meet certain criteria including annual income not exceeding 120 percent of the median income for the area (income maximums vary depending on family size); attend an eight-hour homebuyer education session with a HUD-approved counselor such as Neighborhood Housing Services of the Inland Empire (NHSIE); and a commitment to stay in the home for five years and qualification for a first mortgage on the property.Participating homebuyers can obtain mortgage financing from any qualified lender.
