John Garrett – Dual Transformation: Doubling Your Chances for Digital Success

John Garrett, Co-founder and CEO of Community Impact, now the largest news organization in Texas, will describe his discovery of the business book Dual Transformation and his implementation of its principals. Dual transformation happens when a primary company creates and launches a secondary, more nimble and transformative company to the benefit of both as a means to prevail in the face of disruption. Garrett will discuss his vision and execution of Community Impact's secondary company, named "Project 05," which has leveled up its print and digital products. Garrett and his wife Jennifer started Community Impact (CI) from the game room of his home. The belief that everyone—not just insiders—should know what is happening in their own backyard prompted him to leave news company giants and start his own news organization. John and Jennifer launched the first edition of CI in 2005 with the Round Rock/Pflugerville paper. Helping local businesses thrive isn’t just part of CI‘s mission statement—it’s in the company’s DNA.
