Residents tell committee about Internet troubles By Melody Kinser mkinser@mechlocal.com From Old Church to Beaverdam, the cry is the same: We want better Internet service. Residents were unanimous in expressing their position in public meetings held Oct. 3 and 5 in Montpelier and Mechanicsville, respectively. The Hanover County Board of Supervisors impaneled a High School Internet Committee earlier this year and tasked members with providing a comprehensive study regard-

ing resources, the problems and solutions. Steve Ellis, who lives in the Beaverdam District, moderated the Mechanicsville meeting and told a packed room at the library the goal is “to try to bring high speed Internet to as many people in Hanover County as possible at a cost they can afford.” Frustration and interest topped the reactions received, he added. The committee is scheduled to report its findings to the supervisors in December. Among issues addressed

Festival a financial success Tomatoes bring big money to founding Black Creek VFD By Melody Kinser mkinser@mechlocal.com While plans are already being made for the 2012 Hanover Tomato Festival, the committee and the founding Black Creek Volunteer Fire Department are celebrating “their best year ever”

in terms of financial success. Hanover County Parks & Recreation director Greg Sager said Black Creek brought in $26,650.33 this year. Two hundred bushels – 400 boxes – of tomatoes sold out on July 9.
