So Your New Year’s Resolution was to Become Involved in Your Community? What does it take to become a Board member? The person must be an owner of a privately owned site within the Neighborhood company area, and be at least eighteen years old. It also takes a dedication to your community and a time commitment of a minimum of one board meeting a month on the first Thursday each month and a willingness to make decisions for the greater good of the community. An understanding or experience serving on a non-profit Board is helpful but not required. We also have executive sessions when needed to discuss litigation, or personnel matters. Board members receive monthly board packets with current Association information so they can be reviewed, and be prepared to discuss and make decisions at the monthly board meetings. The elected position would serve a two-year term which would begin June 2017. Running for the Board requires attendance at several meetings through the election process as well as attending the annual meeting and budget meeting each year in March. The nominating committee will interview each of the candidates and propose a slate of nominees for the ballot. The Board of Governors is a policy making board to assist in managing the affairs of the Association. We will be holding an informational meeting for all residents that are interested in running for the Board January 18 at 6:30 pm at The Grange. All potential candidates are urged to attend. Perhaps, you are not quite ready to serve on the Board and need to learn more about the Association before making the commitment. We also have District Delegate positions, as the community is broken up into seven districts. The District Delegates are elected annually to represent the homeowners within their respective District. The Delegates serve a one-year term and in their role as Delegate, they approve the Budget and elect homeowner representatives to the Board of Governors. If you are interested in running as a Board of Governor, or a Delegate for your District, please submit a brief one paragraph statement of candidacy and a resume no later than February 3, 2017. Mail or drop off your statement at The Grange, 3692 Meadows Blvd, or Taft House at 3570 Celestial Avenue, or you may email your statement to Michele Ray-Brethower, mray-brethower@meadowslink. com. If you have questions regarding the positions, please feel free to email Michele, or call 303-814-3952. Candidate bios will be posted on Meadowslink.com as soon as they are available. Please note: If you are interested in the Board of Governors or District Delegate position, you must be available on March 2, 2017, for the Annual Members Meeting; March 15, 2017, for the annual budget presentation; and the Annual Delegate meeting on Thursday, May 4, 2017. 8 JANUARY-MARCH 2017

Girl Scouts Contributing Positively to our Community Working on the highest award attainable as a Girl Scout, The Gold Award, Rebecca Hefty has to focus on a project that would solve an issue in her community and be sustainable. Rebecca, a senior at Castle View High School is in the middle of completing her Gold Project which provides a new 10’ x 16’ pergola which will extend across both community dog parks to provide shade. She also received monetary donations to add 2 picnic benches and watering bowls for our four legged furry friends and their owners. (note: we do not have access to water at this site at this time, so you will still have to bring your pup water.) The pergola is made of a Trex material which will be very low maintenance, installed on a concrete pad, which will support the other new amenities. Rebecca successfully gained support from The Meadows Neighborhood Company and Metropolitan District 1 for her project. We also host a grand opening when the weather is warmer so that we all can enjoy our new amenities! We look forward to the completion of the project and showcasing the fruits of her labor in the upcoming Meadows Living edition. Zach Polson, a Meadows Neighborhood resident, Castle View High School freshmen, and a member of Boy Scout Troop #86, is currently working on successfully achieving his Eagle Scout Award. His project includes building raptor perches for the community and Free Little Library. A Little Free Library is a “take a book, return a book” free book exchange. They come in many shapes and sizes, but the most common version is a small wooden box of books. Anyone may take a book or bring a book to share. We will start with two little libraries, one at The Grange and one at Taft House. Little Free Library book exchanges have a unique, personal touch. There is an understanding that real people are sharing their favorite books with their community, and we are hopeful they are used often so that we can add more in the future. We will have our libraries registered with the Little Free Library, and as of November 2016, there are over 50,000 registered Little Free Library book exchanges in all 50 U.S. states and over 70 countries around the world. Visit the world map of Little Free Libraries to find others, so perhaps when you are traveling you can find a new book to read. You can donate books to the Little Free Libraries as well, they just have to be able to fit into the little house to be protected from the weather.

Neighborly News Note from the Assistant Director Alex Gormley

Welcome 2017 It’s time for those resolutions again. What will the New Year bring for you? It has been said that there is nothing like a fresh start, or a new perspective on existing information. Well, here in The Meadows Association Office, we resolve to provide additional education for our residents. Our current programs include: New Homeowner Orientation, Water Wiser provided by the Town of Castle Rock, and the popular Take the Pain Out of Painting seminars. We have new things planned for 2017. The Meadows is going to take the mystery out of the Governing Documents with the help of our attorney. This educational seminar will be open for all residents and will be offered in the evening to allow for attendance around office hours. It will offer an opportunity to delve more deeply into what makes The Meadows a great community. We will review: Rules established in Section 9 of the Declaration, Architectural Guidelines, and Authority of the Board, Committees and Delegates. It will be everything you didn’t realize that you wanted to know about your community. It will also be an opportunity for us to invite input from residents and recruit volunteers. Please visit www.Meadowslink.com for the latest schedule of events, programs and happenings.

Annual Meeting is March 2 Don’t Forget to Cast Your Ballot/Proxy The Member’s Annual meeting will be held on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at 6 pm at The Grange. Enjoy treats, slideshow presentation of this year’s events/programs successes, and the Annual District Meetings. The meetings for District #1 begins at 6 pm, and move quickly, and each successive District’s meeting will immediately follow until all Districts’ elections have concluded. At the annual meeting, Members will cast one vote for the Delegate position (one Owner vote per home) and will elect a Delegate to represent each of their respective districts. We have District 1 which includes neighborhoods Suncatcher, Patina, Harris Grov, and Feathergrass; District #2 is Briscoe Ranch, Panorama, and Morgan’s Run; District #4 is Morningview, Watercolor, Weathervane, and Fuller Bluff; District #5 is Sweetwood, Plainsong, Leafdale, Gambel Oak; District #6 is Upland Park, Tyler Park, and Echelon Apartments; District #7 is New Haven; and District #8 is Stewart Park. Biographies of all the District Delegates running for the positions will be available on www.Meadowslink.com. Each candidate will have the opportunity to introduce themselves to the Members at the Annual Meeting. If you are unable to attend the March 2, 2017, meeting, you will receive a ballot/proxy in the mail with a postage-paid envelope that identifies your District. A proxy allows you to designate a person to vote on your behalf, at the meeting, for the person whom you wish your vote to be cast in your absence. (This is why it is called a proxy.) If you then decide to attend the meeting, your proxy will be revoked and you may vote in person on March 2nd, by ballot. You may also revoke your proxy in writing if filed with the Secretary before the vote. Please cast your vote by voting your ballot or by completing the proxy and return it to Taft House no later than Wednesday, February 28, 2017, at 5pm. Your participation is essential so that the necessary number of Members required in order to conduct the meeting are present, in person or by proxy. There is a quorum required for this election (10% of the votes in your District) and it is imperative that we have your participation, so please vote! Check your mailbox for the pre-paid ballot postcard, check your choice, sign at the bottom and mail back as soon as you can. Without a quorum, we will have to repeat the mailing and reconvene, doubling the cost to our Association. The record date for this meeting is February 3, 2017. This is the cut-off date for homeowners new to the Association and determines our quorum number. In accordance with Section 4.5 of the Bylaws, this notice is sent not less than fifteen (15) days nor more than sixty (60) days prior to the meeting of Members, so you should receive your ballot/proxy in the mail by February 14, 2017.

N EW Intro to Yoga Workshop! Yoga is an important component to any “workout” or “fitness” program for individuals of all levels. Athletes and beginners alike benefit from improved coordination, increased range of motion and flexibility, and endurance. But often times the fast pace of a “flow” class can be confusing or too advanced for beginners. Without a foundation of the fundamental poses, students may be confused or even risk injury. This class breaks down the most common poses (ASANAS) from the ground up, in a slower-paced workshop format. Students will learn proper alignment in order to help protect the body and at the same time, learn to make adjustments or modifications in their individual body to get the most benefits. This class is perfect for beginners, advanced yogis looking to enhance their practice, and anyone who desires a deeper understanding of alignment. HOME & Garden All About Architectural Review Every year the Architectural Committee reviews the existing ARC Guidelines and recommends changes for adoption by the Board of Governors. Each resident has the opportunity during this process to provide their feedback and late January on MeadowsLink.com and then considered for adoption by the Board of Governors in the March 2017 meeting. Below you will find a brief listing of the some of the most frequently asked questions about the Architectural Guidelines. • The Architectural Control Committee’s goal is to approve architectural applications that are submitted while protecting the aesthetics and property values within our community. • If your backyard project consists of more than grass, live plants, and maybe a tree, it probably needs ARC approval. • All front yard landscaping projects need approval, including grass, rock, flowers, and trees. • For newly constructed homes, landscaping in both front and rear yards must be installed within six months of closing. • Please plan ahead, architectural committee meetings are not every week, depending on when your application is submitted the next meeting could be three weeks away so please leave plenty of time for a decision to be made. • Trampolines and play structures must be placed 8 feet from fence line with respect to your neighbors and both must get prior approval. • Basketball hoops are allowed in an upright position if it is in use. Please do not leave them in the street or on your sidewalk. • Decks and deck covers that are attached to your home must match your home’s main body paint or trim color. • Yes, fences need approval, each neighborhood has their own fence

guidelines, please make sure to get your fencing project approved to be sure it is the correct style for your neighborhood. You can find everything ARC including the application on MeadowsLink. com under MNC Info, then Architectural Review Information.
