History of Hotel Radisson The history of Radisson® dates back to 1909 when the first Radisson hotel, named after famous French explorer Pierre Radisson, opened in Minneapolis, MN. In 1962 the Radisson was acquired by Curt Carlson, a Minneapolis businessman and entrepreneur. Carlson had rocketed to national prominence in the 1940s and 50s with his successful Gold Bond Stamp Company, which pioneered the concept of customer loyalty programs.
Over the brand’s rich legacy, they’ve launched many firsts including the first American brand in the U.S.S.R, the first travel agency loyalty program, look to book ®, and one of the first partnerships across the Atlantic between Radisson and Rezidor. The Radisson brand is one of the oldest upscale brands in the United States.
