Director's Notes

Welcome back to YOUR community theatre – Midland Community Theatre. We are so glad to see you back at the theatre! Auditions and rehearsals for this production were underway in March when the pandemic hit. When we were discussing ways to come back to the stage this fall, I wanted to see if there was a way to produce this show within the current guidelines. So many audience members told us how much they wanted to see this show, and we knew that there had to be a way to make it work. Reader’s Theatre allowed us to perform a show with 19 actors while keeping them socially distanced on the stage and backstage. By adding the sets, costumes, lighting and sound, we hope to make this production a little more theatrical for our audience. We hope you enjoy our version of Harper Lee’s classic story. One common question that I have gotten is about future Midland Community Theatre productions. While we are not planning any future Reader’s Theatre productions, MCT is planning to produce plays and musicals with small casts that will allow us to maintain the safety of the volunteers and the audience. We appreciate your patience and support as we make this transition back to our stage, and we hope to see you back at the theatre for the fall Pickwick production of THE WIND IN THE WILLOWS and our holiday production of A TUNA CHRISTMAS.

Timothy Jebsen Executive Director, Midland Community Theatre 4

for your commitment in helping us to build MCT’s endowment as we celebrate 75 years of theatre at YOUR community theatre! In the past 12 years, members have helped us contribute more than $1,000,000 to the MCT Endowment Fund. We are so very excited that we can make a lasting memory with the theatre and continue to fund education programs and plays for the years to come. Thank you to each and every member that have helped us get this far—we have several that have faithfully been a part of building the endowment each year since its inception in 2008 and we are grateful for all of your support. But we’re not done yet! Please join us as we continue to grow our endowment fund so that we can secure MCT’s future in our community. As a member, you’ll receive exclusive invitations to four Legacy Night at the Theatre events each season. These receptions give you and a guest the chance to enjoy pre-show cocktails, heavy hors d’oeuvres and private performances. We also recognize our members in the lobby on the south wall and a group of Legacy members will attend our fourth annual Legacy On Broadway trip to New York City in March. You can also help secure MCT’s future by making a gift of cash, securities or a planned gift to MCT’s Endowment Fund. Please give today so that we can help keep the theatre going for another 75 years and 75 years after that!

an interest in learning

We are tuning up in band, vocalizing in choir, gracing the stage in drama, snapping pictures in photography, throwing pots in art and –most importantly – coming to know an aesthetic point-of-view. Our students are well prepared to be appreciative audiences for and stalwart supporters of organizations like Midland Community Theatre.

Experience the difference. 21
